Not heard that and as Wobble said they have just spent a lot of money on it and the CMC just don't do that unless they have a secure lease. Where did you hear it? The site does close sometimes when the river floods but that is only temporary.
The problem with reports on social media is much of the time it's likely to be innaccurate or fake news so just take it with a pinch of salt until you get the true facts from the CAMC.
Last year the CMC had advertised that they were going to close the Chatsworth Site for a few months over the winter to do some improvement work and then, suddenly, they weren’t doing the work anymore. I asked the warden about it and he said that it was because the CMC were renegotiating their lease which was nearly up and they didn’t do any improvement work on a site until they were sure they had a good long lease. Based on the work that the CMC have done at Rowntree, I can’t imagine the lease is up anytime soon.
I’m not a CAMC member, but I appreciate the site has its fans - why else would it be fully booked beyond Christmas, despite costing an eye watering £35+ pn. I checked it on TripAdvisor to see if there was further info there about it closing, and there wasn’t. But one of the recent reviews has photos of the hotel being built at the boundary. It looks to be 6 - 7 floors high & bedroom occupants could look down onto the pitches below though I doubt if many will.

I wonder if its just another flood warning closure, Roundtree often closes when heavier than normal rainfall is excepted.
Heavier than normal is getting to be the new normal
If you have never seen it, next time you are there have a look in Rountree Park itself and there is an archway quite a way from the river. On this you will see marks showing the level the river has reached over the last hundred year or more, its an eyeopener as to how far the river used to come over.
