Not camped for years, but picture the scene.....rain lashing down, it's blowing a gale, it's 2.00 in the morning .......what would you rather do, put a light on, wake partner up, stumble about, get dressed, in waterproofs, get your torch, stumble about in a field, get drenched, do a wee😊, then stumble back, hang dripping wet stuff somewhere to (Not dry😀) trying to be quiet, now you're wide awake.....

To me get a porta potti, or at least a bucket.
No brainer..😁

Whatever you do you are going to have to get up, wake your partner, and probably put a light on. If you are in a tent you either going to have to go outside to your toilet tent, or stay inside the tent and wee in something in front of your partner, unless you have a very big tent.

For us when we had a tent, the deciding factor was space in the car. With all the other stuff we simply didn't have room for any kind of toilet. Anyway, it doesn't rain every night.

So far, in over 40 years camping (tents then motorhomes), I've never once had to hop from foot to foot until a toilet cubicle was free. Even on Certificated Sites that may only have one loo in the barn (because there are only 5 other motorhomes there). Any queues have been for showers.
But the convenience thing is a separate issue, so get a porta pottie if you need to be up in the night. They can be easily disguised as a seat.

2024 = 20 sites / 41 nights. 2023 = 9/23. 2022 = 13/35. 2021 = 11/29. 2020 = 4/20. 2019 = 13/35. 2018 = 20/33. 2017 = 10/22. 2016 = 19/33. 2015 = 15 sites / 27 nights. Didn't count 1976 to 2014.

Timing is everything. There are always times on any site when the showers will be busy, such as early morning. Avoid peak times and you won't have any problems.

the campsites i visit in france usually have more than 1 toilet block so theres always one open and usually not to far to walk.

in the UK some have more blocks and smaller ones do not.

the one thing that makes me prfer my caravan over tenting is that we can all use the toilet during the night and in the morning without getting dressed and walking to the toilet block.

i still use varous tents for my motorcycling weekends and i hate to say it but varoius vessels (bottles and cans) have been used durng the night to save going outside the tent. i think a bucket or porta potty is a useful piece of kit to take.

We went to
https://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=12061
last year, excellent toilet block (ladies and men separate) with use of the disabled toilet in the middle of the day when the main block was being cleaned. Never had to wait for a shower or a toilet in the middle of August with the site full, so no worries there!
