I'm new to this forum but undoubtedly love camping and nature exploring activities. I enjoy staying at a campsite for a week via a tent with my family doing it at least 2x per year. But now, I'm living alone but still want to continue what I loved most.
I am planning to use my small SUV as my campervan ( not to covert but only for sleeping) once we surpass and everyone is safe with this COVID 19 dilemma.
I am just wondering if campsites allow an SUV car to use a pitch intended for a motorhome?
Thanks and will really appreciate some inputs and advice from anyone on this lovely community.
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
I think you generally risk a refusal to accept your booking, as most sites require details about your outfit, and basically 'sleeping in the car' is not acceptable to them.
You may find smaller more ad-hoc, farm type, sites will accommodate you, but you cut your options to a bare minimum. A small tent is cheap enough and opens up the range of sites to you, and not much to stop you still sleeping in the car if that is your choice (just don't let them catch you! )

I've slept in my car overnight, when there was no alternative. It was the most uncomfortable & bad night's sleep I'd ever had! Try your SUV on the drive some weekend (have a look at the "great British campout for the NHS" forum or check their FB page: it's for people camping at home for fun) & just check that it's really something you want to do.
Modern tents are so quick to put up, if you minimise what you put into yours, it won't take even an hour to do, less time than rearranging the inside of your vehicle & making it light-proof. PS condensation can be a problem in a car.
There is a member called Tigermouse, although I have not seen her posting for quite a while, who has some sort of people carrier and drive away awning arrangement I think, if she sees this she may be able to help.

With all the modern driveaway units, it's surely got to be easier than a decade ago when I had a Caranex and some CCC sites were puzzled?
Like Fiona W, I've perforce spent nights in my SUV and don't recommend it unless you have to! I'd intended borrowing son's Olpro pop-up for the 1/2 nighters I'd been planning this year, with a tarp for protection/cooking under. Very little to unpack from the back of the vehicle, five minutes to peg out and minimum amount of stuff in the tent itself.

Have a look on Youtube, lots of videos which might help. Just put Car camping UK in the search box.
Also wild camping by car.
