Getting the right balance is very difficult, my brother in law’s small family business has been going for over 100 years. He is very upset that they might go bust, his shop opens tomorrow and he needs to get customers in. He says if he doesn’t make money this month, then he will close, losing 10 jobs. He has personally lost £50k in 10 weeks.
There will be thousands like him, what do we do ? Stay at home, keep safe and let them all fail, or take a risk?
He is also vulnerable because of heart problems, and the possibility if losing his business and his house is not helping his health.
Absolutely right, it is extremely difficult getting the right balance. However, health before wealth has always been my principle so I will never risk my health for the sake of money. I think that sadly a lot of businesses will go under before all this is over. The Heritage Railway I have just spent the past 20 years helping to create out of nothing is now on very dodgy grounds. It's doubtful it will reopen this year, if it ever does. I don't own it, and I have no financial investment in it, but I have invested 20 years of unpaid work so I don't want it to close, but it may. The majority of the volunteers on there are over 60, and many like me are over 70, so we are nearly all in that vulnerable age group who are not likely to rush back when/if it does open again. Opening to the public is highly unlikely this year, but some of us may return later this year to try and clear up the mess of several months neglect.
------------- Best Regards,
Colin

Why hasn't he submitted a "furlong" claim?
Furlong only covers his workers not him, My mate reopened his garage last week as he was about 45k down,He's mad busy now so it proved a good move for him
