Our tourer is site stored in a village near Filey. The owner pulls in the caravan out when we go up puts it on a pitch, all pitches have own EHU and water tap, and the pitches are large. There are no showers or toilet facilities so we have to use ours in the caravan. The only communal areas are the toilet waste (husband always wears disposable gloves) and bins obviously we wash our hands after using these anyway.
We always take food & drink up with us so very occasionally will pick up food after being out for the day.
So in terms of contracting the virus it's probably very small. We would choose not to go to busy areas when out.
I suppose the Government can insist that caravan parks and campsites can open but all communal showers toilets and washing up areas remain closed. As do playgrounds, swimming pools and club houses.
It's just the issue of more people visiting possibly small seaside towns or rural villages.
Your last sentence says it all really. I can't see the sites themselves being any problem at all, it is people travelling all over the country to visit them which could be. We won't be visiting any of them anyway, until it is deemed safe to open the toilet and shower blocks. Once that happens we will consider the risk is low enough for us to start using our caravan again.

Colin

We are happy to use our own facilities, but only if we are allowed to go away and its safe.
We have spent most of this nice weather in our garden, with walks daily locally. Since easement we have been out in our car to places for a walk.
Our nearest coast is N.Wales, so we cannot go there. We are not into sunbathing on crowded beaches anyway!
For us it's not so much whether we can or can't use our own facilities, it's simply that if it is deemed unsafe to open the site facilities, that means it's not safe enough yet for us to visit.
We too have been staying home, and the way things look at the moment we will carry on doing so for the foreseeable future. We did take the car out for a run though without getting out of it until we got home. Nearest beach to us is about 50 miles away, and we wouldn't go on it if it was crowded in normal times, so we certainly won't now.

Colin

Getting the right balance is very difficult, my brother in law’s small family business has been going for over 100 years. He is very upset that they might go bust, his shop opens tomorrow and he needs to get customers in. He says if he doesn’t make money this month, then he will close, losing 10 jobs. He has personally lost £50k in 10 weeks.
There will be thousands like him, what do we do ? Stay at home, keep safe and let them all fail, or take a risk?
He is also vulnerable because of heart problems, and the possibility if losing his business and his house is not helping his health.

Why hasn't he submitted a "furlong" claim?

Absolutely right, it is extremely difficult getting the right balance. However, health before wealth has always been my principle so I will never risk my health for the sake of money. I think that sadly a lot of businesses will go under before all this is over. The Heritage Railway I have just spent the past 20 years helping to create out of nothing is now on very dodgy grounds. It's doubtful it will reopen this year, if it ever does. I don't own it, and I have no financial investment in it, but I have invested 20 years of unpaid work so I don't want it to close, but it may. The majority of the volunteers on there are over 60, and many like me are over 70, so we are nearly all in that vulnerable age group who are not likely to rush back when/if it does open again. Opening to the public is highly unlikely this year, but some of us may return later this year to try and clear up the mess of several months neglect.

Colin

Furlong only covers his workers not him, My mate reopened his garage last week as he was about 45k down,He's mad busy now so it proved a good move for him

There are a couple of heritage railways near us, hope they survive. One ( Severn Valley) has been fund raising, because they of course have no income.
The one I volunteer on (Epping Ongar Railway) is also fundraising due to lack of income. This couldn't have come at a worse time really as they have just spent over half a million pounds having a steam engine rebuilt, as has to be done every ten years. They had hoped to recover some of that this summer hiring it out to other similar railways. There is also another in the process of a rebuild which will need to be paid for. We can do the smaller engines ourselves, but these two were fairly large and we don't yet have the equipment to tackle them.
I would imagine things are getting very tatty and overgrown down there at the moment as even the tiny handful of paid staff have been put on furlough.

Colin
