Hi there, I have just been reading this thread with interest. I travel alone in a tiny two berth caravan (4.2m long) and I am so frustrated with UK pricing policies always including two adults. A few years ago I joined both main clubs and never used a single site - I found them to be too big and was concerned they would be overly busy. The pricing is great for solo travellers but I couldn't take to the sites unfortunately. The independent sites I use nearly all price for two adults and charge for any extra people but rarely discount when it is the other way. I have a tiny caravan which hardly uses any electricity and I am charged the same for something three times the size. I do appreciate that a pitch is still a pitch but I wish there was more flexible pricing. I travelled around Europe for 6 months last year and they have much fairer pricing policies that benefits rather than excludes solo travellers. Is the only way to get fair pricing as a solo traveller to join one of the clubs??? Thanks

I haven't tried camping or caravanning on the European mainland so I don't know what their pricing system is like, but this is rip-off Britain after all.

I think most sites here charge for a couple as the majority of campers/caravanners do come in couples or families. Single campers must be only a tiny minority. When we first started camping back in the 1970s, most sites charged for a pitch regardless of how many people. You could have as many people on your pitch as your camping unit would allow. These days most sites charge extra for any more than two, but I suppose that their attitude is that one person occupying a pitch is taking up as much space as a family of six would, so their minimum price is for two. If you hired a car that could seat 4 you would pay the same price if you were the only occupant as you would if all the seats were occupied. All depends on your point of view I suppose.

Best Regards,
Colin
