Someone has told me that none of the sites in the area will open this year. Is this true does anyone know? she is not a caravanner so would not know about CL/CSs. Just checked a few CLs, they are opening.

It’s just the sites owned by ‘Camping in the Forest’ that are not opening. The CMC sites are opening and I have seen quite a few CLs advertising for the summer so they must be opening too. The ‘Camping in the Forest’ sites do not have marked out pitches, they are mainly Forest glades where you just pitch up where you like so they have decided it would be impossible to sort out social distancing. Personally, I don’t see the problem, just send someone in with white pegs to indicate where you have to pitch but they have made the decision not to open.
Thanks, thought that might be the case. Hardly "all sites". I have informed my friend that this only applies to 10 sites, out of more than 70 within 10 miles of Lyndhurst. I don't think this will cause the mayhem she predicts.
I think there will be a lot of disappointed people as a couple of the ‘Camping in the Forest’ sites are really big. There is a public footpath that cuts across the Hollands Wood site and we cycled across it last year and I was amazed at the size of the site.

I think they range in size from some smaller no facility sites to much larger sites with all the facilities. Our initial impression of the couple we saw last year was that in the summer they were very cramped.
we have just booked at a superb cl in the new forest strawberry fields we have been before no trees on the site mrs bonce and a cl too so only 5 vans give them a call lots of availability when we booked on thursday
