We are a family of 4 who want to take the leap from camping to caravanning. We are looking at one of the smaller Swift Basecamp and awning type caravans for no-thrills. Just somewhere a bit warmer and comfier to sleep in.

However we tend to go away with 2 or 3 other families who all camp together and it would be a real shame if we weren’t able to setup our mini caravan and awning next to them. They all like an electric hook up as well.

How likely is it that sites would allow a small caravan and awning to be pitched on the grass alongside tents ?

Thanks.

I think this might be possible at the site we are going to this summer (East Fleet Touring Park), as I noticed when booking that some of their pitches are for both tents and caravans.

It will depend on the site and in some cases the conditions of their licence (some licences don't allow the mixing of units).

As a rule of thumb more relaxed campsites without regimented pitches will allow more mixing of units than big sites with set out pitches, but this is not always the case.

The best thing to do is to find a site you like the look of and check on their website which will often give details of the set up and/or pitches and what they will accept. If not then give the site a ring.

When I was camping under canvas, I always camped on a grass pitch with EHU, often next to caravans and motorhomes.

Non-EHU pitches tend to be away from EHU ones as they do not need to be near an electric supply.

So yes, it would be possible to pitch a tent next to or close to caravans and motorhomes. However, OP may need to pay a bit more for a grass pitch with EHU for such a privilege, even if EHU is not required.

Thanks all. Even if we werent with our camping friends and just on our own with our caravan, is it normal for EHU pitches to be a mixture of grass and hardstanding ? Wed much prefer to be pitched where we have an open area of grass for the kids to play rather than sandwiched between other vans with a tarmac road directly in front of us and then other vans on the other side of the road.

Sites vary enormously. I don't like regimented sites where you have rows of caravans either side of a roadway. I much prefer a large grassy area with random pitches. Many of the sites we have been on have been a mixture of tents, motorhomes, and caravans, but others have had them separated. This applies to both small and large sites. I would just check with whatever site you want to visit. Often a look at the website will give you an idea.

Often been on mixed sites.
Why not find a likely site and then have a look on Google Earth. You can very often get a good idea of the sort of pitches.

You do have to shop around, but there are plenty of sites that will allow for your preferred set up.

If you give us a hint of likely areas you would be looking at, someone may give you a specific recommendation.

Our favourite, for family gatherings, with plenty of space for the kids to run around, or a game or two...

Two tents and a caravan together, at West End Farm, Lincs:

So good, we added another tent the following year...

No idea what area you would be aiming for, but I would recommend Rynys near Betws-y-Coed for its very informal layout, mix of vans and tents and natural surroundings. Sadly they don't seem to be open again yet, but if you visit their website they have a 360 degree view. Click 'view panorama' on the green buttons on the left of the page.
