Silvercraigs is steep at £180 a month and you have to stay a minimum 7 months.

We settled on Glenearly. We went down a couple of times in tent to try it. Loved it. Beautiful site and nice and quiet. Good dog walks from site and loads of longer walks within a very short drive.

Thanks for letting us know. It’s a tidy site, that one. Plenty of dog walks in the area: the Barhill woods above town (seen across from the site); loads in the Richorn plantation / Dalbeattie Forest heading south, part of the Seven Stanes for mountain biking; walk from Kippford to Rockcliffe and maybe on to Sandyhills Bay (and back, or get a bus or taxi); plenty in the Forest behind White Loch at Colvend; up Screel Hill off the A711; plenty from the car park by Balcary Bay Hotel (dead end road, look out for egrets in Auchencairn Bay); Mabie Forest west of Dumfries; climb Criffel on a clear day. And you’re not far from my favourite farm shop at Beeswing, run by the Loch Arthur Community (for special needs adults), where they make their own cheeses from cows that still have horns, there were Longhorn beef cattle grazing last time I was there. Castle Douglas is known as “the Food Town” too. NTS Threave Gardens and HS Threave Castle are near there too.

Good info Fiona, some I'm familiar with but some I've not done - not heard of Richorn plantation so will check that out. Never been to Mabie Forest either so looking forward to that. In fact its mainly the coastal walks we've done in that side of D&G. Its the first site I've come across that matched up to Pine Trees and we are very happy with our choice and excited. We did shed a wee tear leaving Tyndrum after 8 years.
