What route are you taking? How long do you want to take? Are you wanting to use ferries or not?
I’ve pottered from Ayrshire to Ullapool hugging much of the coast (bypassed Ardmamurchan due to time) and had no problem finding sites, plenty of choice. But we’re in a MH - I’d have to think about a caravan on some of the roads.
And apart from the aforementioned invaluable Site Search, look at the North Coast 500 website for Gairloch to Ullapool.
Yes was disappointed in the choice on offer. Not looking for luxury but some were not what we wanted at all. I will check out the 500 route. thanks to all.

Why disappointed? That’s a very broad brush response for the half the west of Scotland. Not enough of them? That just reflects the smaller market. There’s usually about an hour’s drive between the rural ones. Or the facilities weren’t what you wanted? True, bars aren’t common. Too big (rare) or too small?
All the NC500 sites are on UKCS, as far as I know. But if you say what your perfect site would be, and whether you’re taking a week or a fortnight or a weekend, I’m sure we’ll come up with suggestions for you.
Very much depends on what you're wanting - what have you looked at and found wanting and why? That might help with recommendations as it's really hard for people to help without a bit more info. (I know I'm a tenter but I've a lot of friends with 'vans who know their west coast.)

Response from OP would be helpful. Personally we found the site at Ullapool fine, but it's not all singing all dancing if that's what he wants. (Don't think many are on the west coast).

I’m guessing not.
Given the west of Scotland sites are pretty typical of Scotland generally - club sites, independent sites, small sites that don’t have perfect loos but have a perfect location, big sites with statics but a heart of gold - looks like all of Scotland is ruled out.
Let's give the OP a couple more days - maybe they're away somewhere with no internet etc. I know it happens to me quite often when I'm out and about, though it does seem a bit strange to post a query and get offers to help but seem to dismiss them.

I did have a shock when the C&CC mag came in yesterday because it had a map of their club sites that are open. And Glencoe plus Poolewe are closed all this year. (And a surprising number of others up here too.) I’d thought to suggest them to OP, as being of an accepted standard. Oops!
Surprised at poolewe / inverewe because of NC500 - the managers could have filled it twice over when we stayed (wanted to see the amazing gardens again), they turned away dozens from mid afternoon.
Not having some sites open is going to be a double-edged sword and I'm surprised at some of the CCC decisions like Glencoe and Poolewe. Certainly on the NC500 it's going to cause more issues of people parking up to overnight plus, regrettably more waste and litter - it's already happening in some of the places and not just on the main drag. Even places where sites are open, people aren't bothering. I know of four communities on the west coast that, just over 2 weeks in, are having huge problems and are having to put signs up and call in the police as emergency vehicles are being blocked.
However, still think it unfair of the OP not to give details of their wants and then condemn an entire area without explanation.

If the OP ever returns the site just north of Ullapool at Ardmair Point is pretty nice. Well I thought so anyway.
I've never had a problem with lack of choice on the West coast but my needs are pretty simple - decent sized pitch, decent loos/showers and a reasonable site fee.
