Does anyone have the answer to settle a lighthearted argument please! Have these always been called certificated locations/sites? I think I'm going mad as I swear they were once certified but everyone's telling me I'm wrong!

I'm pretty sure you're correct. Unless perhaps I should be certified too and I'm going mad like you. They were called Certified Sites /Locations ( going years back)
I've been reading this board for a few years but never been a member of either club and have never understood what you lot are on about with your CL's and CS's. It's very confusing.

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply. I'm sorry but I don't think I worded it very well, what I meant to say was were they once known as certified rather than certificated sites/locations (sorry it seems really trivial but I've always known them as certified and only just noticed the term certificated and everyone thinks I'm wrong so just looking to know one way or the other! 🤔)

They are small sites that have a certificate of exemption issued by one of the clubs which provided they accept no more than 5 caravans they don't have to apply for a license with the local authority to operate as a site. They are lovely too!

Those that are affiliated to the Caravan and Motorhome Club (CAMC) are Certificated Locations (CLs), the Camping and Caravanning Club ones are known as Certified Sites (CSs).
CLs usually only take caravans and motorhomes, all have a water supply and a chemical waste disposal point (CWD), most have electric hook up (EHU), some have loos and showers.
CSs take the above, plus some tents so more often have loos and showers (but not always).
Prices normally range from £12-£20 per night (with ehu, we don't use non electric sites). They are indeed lovely (most of them).
Now the plot thickens, just looking at the Siteseeker book (C&CC), where they are called Certificated, not Certified Sites. Always knew them as the latter! no wonder confusion reigns!
