Having worked as a nurse solidly through lockdown including most bank holidays-am ready for a break like so many other workers who have kept this country running. We are heading off in our 7.4 m caravan , to coniston park coppice site. Have never been there before so would any of you kind and knowledgeable people be able to advise of pitches/ areas to avoid.?
Some reviewers have reported driving around for an hour looking for a suitable place so am keen to avoid that. We like peace and will hopefully be able to put our full awning up.
I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to this.
Cheers
JulieB

Been there several times, couple of times in July which was pretty busy, but had no difficulty finding suitable pitch for my 6.8m van plus awning. You'd get your size van on same pitch as room to spare. Most pitches are decent size.

The layout of the site is unusual, with several serpentine roads meandering around site on a partial one way system. The site is on a hillside leading down towards the lake, the pitches are mostly in little groups of 4/6/8 or so on level terraces set into the trees and shrubs. Despite it being a quite large site, you rarely get to see more that a handful of vans/campers/mhs from your pitch, and it's surprisingly quite as the trees suppress noise from other campers.

Where to avoid! Personally I like to avoid the children's play area as the families with kids tend towards that area, and the kids are often allowed to run somewhat noisily amok! Being quite a large site, some of the pitches nearer the site roads will be more affected by the comings and goings of vehicles, but as the roads are proper tarmac it's not too intrusive unlike sites with crunching gravel roads. Pitching too near one of the multiple service points might mean you have a fair bit of 'rumbling' from aquarolls or grey water tanks to and from SP.

Unless they have changed system, after check in, they will give you a map (with vacant pitches marked for me), you go find the pitch you want, then park your van, go back to reception tell them pitch number you are on and they give you entry barrier electronic tag and toilet block key.

Recommend you don't stop on the uphill sections of road to 'look around' when looking for pitches, they are quite steep hills and pulling away again tests your driving skills and your cars traction and clutch!

If you haven't already looked, site map here: https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/globalassets/pdfs/sites/a-e/coniston-park-coppice/CA........

Whatever anyone else or sat nav says, DON'T try towing your size of van on A593 to site from the north, the approach from the south is so much easier. In fact you'd probably ground tail end of your van going over hump back bridge at Clappersgate, and it's a horrible blind sharp left bend approaching the narrow bridge and again immediately you come off the bridge, it's not easy in just a car, but that is the route ordinary sat navs love to send you, and the rest of the road down to Coniston is very narrow and windy with all sorts of trees and rocks poking out into road from the verge! Nightmare with a large van in tow!
Coming from the south, stay on A5092 until you turn right onto A5084 at Lowick Green. Stay on A5084 until you turn right onto A593 at Torver. Don't be tempted to cut corners, or let sat nav take shortest route, the lanes are very narrow single track and horrible to drag a van down! Two lane A5084 and A593 are OK unless you meet a truck or caravan/motorhome coming other way, there's a few places where it gets a little tight, but really shouldn't be anything to worry about, just might need to slow down a bit. I've driven those roads a great many times (for decades before I had a caravan) and know them very well.

I love the camp site, and if you like walking, there is a pub (Ship Inn) accessible mostly by footpaths with a short section on road, and Coniston town is walkable entirely on footpaths and about 1.5 miles away. You can walk down to the lake directly from the camp site (on site roads and footpaths).

Enjoy your stay.
