Am due to tow first the first time. Can anyone recommend a site within close proximity to the M5 between 1 and 2 hours south of the Midlands that’s easy to get to (no narrow roads etc) and easy to pitch up on for a first time tower? Have done the van set up numerous times but never towed before so just want it as simple as possible. Site needs to have washing facilities and be kid and dog friendly. Thanks in advance

Are you a Caravan Club or camping and Caravan member? If not Briarfields near Gloucester may suit you. However use the search facility on this forum by clicking on Campsite search at the top of this page.

Nice Park but no where near the M5.

Tudor Caravan Park at Slimbridge could be what you're looking for. It's a very easy drive from the M5 and most of the pitches are on hardstanding.

Personally though, I'd recommend going the other side of the River Severn to the Forest and Wye Valley site near St Briavels. It means a bit more driving on single carriageway A and B roads but there's nothing difficult provided you follow the site's directions. The owners are some of the nicest, friendliest people we've ever met and I'm sure they'd be delighted to help you with any manouevring or pitching difficulties.

Wow thanks for these. Tudor caravan park look just what I’m after. Forest and Wye site looks great too but need the location close to m5 for logistics this break, I’ll definitely be trying It another time tho!

Thank you

Be aware that although Tudor is a very nice caravan park, not exactly close and down a winding twisty narrow road. Not exactly what I would recommend to someone towing a caravan for the first time.
Why not try the C & CC Caravan Park in Malvern. Easy to access from M5 with wide roads all the way. Also you have fellow members who can help if you have any issues setting up.

Once you've found a site that appeals, use Google Streetview and Satellite to get a 'virtual' view of road access once off the major roads.

Plenty of experienced caravanners, me included, do it to find best access route. Sat Navs and Route Planners, even caravan/motorhome dedicated versions, are all very well, but they only give you an achievable route, not necessarily the best route (and also do take heed of any site's approach info/instructions/directions!).
Sometimes approaching a site from a different direction makes life a LOT easier, it may be longer route, but it may well avoid nasty junctions, pinch points, or narrow lanes etc., a 'virtual' drive of a route allows you to see any spots you'd rather not contend with.

If car/van fit's through a gap, I'll put it through the gap, so no issues with my driving skills or confidence, but it's much nicer not to have to demonstrate/challenge your skills if an easier option is available.
