Indeed. The west coast sections are definitely not for towing! but Ullapool is fine for basing a caravan and exploring by car north & south - Summer Isles, Gairloch, National Trust for Scotland gardens at Poolewe, site of Atlantic Convoy gatherings etc.
And north from Inverness to Thurso is fine, now that the Berrydale Braes steep hairpin bends have been realigned. (Articulated lorries used to have to come out into the oncoming lane to get around the bends. I think there may be old YouTubes still.)
Hmmm, I may need to modify my plan for the West Coast, as I am not too keen on narrow bendy single tracks in a car, let alone a campervan!
I am glad to have opted for a MWB VW Crafter and not a bigger van for certain!
In 2012, to escape the Olympics mania in the south, I spent 2 weeks in August in Scotland, at C&CC Glencoe and Nairn, and drove from Glencoe to Nairn along Loch Ness towing a leisure trailer and it was beautiful, and this is one of my favourite memory of the trip:
