Hi All,

Anyone recommend any sites within very close proximity of Bath, walking distance or taxi ride away.

Don't seem to be any that close, the Marina seems quite steep so just wondering if anyone has stayed that area.

Many Thanks

Bath is not very well-served, camp site wise.

Devizes C&CC in Sells Green would be my suggestion, as there is a bus that stops outside, the 273, and the last bus leaves Bath central bus station at about 23:20.

Can't comment on taxi cost, however, it cost about 65 GBP from Bath to Devizes where I live, and Devizes C&CC is about 8 miles from my home.

I agree, few sites close by: the one we stayed at is now closed. But it was expensive & the Premier Inn / Travel Lodge type places in Bath itself were cheaper. If it’s just for a few days, that might work better: you’d have more time to wander around. And no bedding to wash!

The Devizes site is the favourite as the buses are reasonably regular and drop you into the centre.

If you are doing the tourist bit, take plenty of money. The city welcomes you with open palms. It is best summed up by a New Zealand tourist who said "They will be charging you to fart next"

If you are not a member of the C&CC the Three Magpies Pub right next door to the C&CC site at Seend has it's own campsite and is now taking bookings according to their website.

I think you have a caravan but some motor homes will be charged £9 (or up to £100) to drive into Bath each day.
So what the New Zealand guy said could shortly be true!

You are right about caravans Dave but it's good to bring this to the attention of those planning to visit by campervan/motorhome.

The campsite at the Marina outside the clean air zone but it would probably be best to check your route to and from the campsite to avoid the charge.

The area covered by the new scheme is in the link below.

If your route does take you through the zone the charges, which don't apply to cars are:

If your campervan/motorhome is later than Euro 1-5/V diesel or Euro 1 to 3 petrol - No Charge

If your campervan/motorhome is Euro 1-5/V diesel or Euro 1 to 3 petrol or older:

For vans under 3500kg (PLGV) the charge is £9 a day.

For vehicles over 3500kg it is £100 a day BUT so long as your campervan/motorhome is registered as a private vehicle you can register it with the council and the charge is reduced to £9 a day.

More details here.

There is a site just outside Bath towards the back of Keynsham - https://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=5885Bury View

I have no idea what its like - I just drive past it a lot as we live just outside Bath.

Also consider that the Marina site is opposite the park & ride so this makes life easy getting in and out of town.

The suggestion is that the Bath Marina site is expensive? However you do have to balance that with its convenience to the nearby Park and Ride and the closeness to Bath. Whilst you may well find other sites less expensive you have to balance that against the inconvenience and possible extra expenses of staying further out. Bath Marina is not the best site in the world but its closeness to Bath makes it a site to seriously think about.
