We regularly go up and down the M40/A34 when we are travelling North and South and always do a one night stopover at the CMC site at Bladon Chains to break the journey as my husband doesn’t like doing more than 3 hours towing in a day. However, Bladon Chains is closing in September and this has left me wondering where we might break our journeys in the future. The site needs to be not too far off the A34 around the Oxford area as that is a good stopping point for us, just over the halfway mark in our journey and crucially, it has to accept one night stays. I have searched on the site search facility here but when I have looked further at some of the sites, they have a minimum 2 nights at weekends (which I completely understand the rationale for) which is no good for us.

We need EHU and a toilet (I know we have our own on board toilet but I won’t go into details about why my husband is banned from using the caravan toilet for certain things as some of you may be having breakfast)

Has anyone any direct experience of sites in the area that take single night stopovers? Bladon Chains was in the perfect location so it is very disappointing that they are having to close.

We like Diamond Park at Bletchingdon near Oxford. We first went there in the 1970s when it was called Diamond Farm and revisited it about 3 years ago. Not sure whether they do one night stopovers but well worth a try. We stayed there 3 nights last time through choice, and it was mid-week like we usually go for, so simply never asked about one night. It's a lovely quiet little site, or at least it was when we were there.

We are booked into Diamond Park for a 1 night stopover in September. Never stayed there before but looks nice and the location is good for us on our journey south.

Pixie, another possibility is Greenhill Leisure Park - 3 miles from the Bladon Chains site. Details and reviews are on here.

Thanks Colin, that is one that I had spotted in the search and had put on a list to check up on. A personal recommendation is always a reassurance!

Sue, that’s great to know that they allow single night stopovers. It looks in a perfect location for a stopover for us too!

It was a bit of a nostalgia trip for us as it was one of the first caravan sites we went to back in the 1970s. It's a nice little site and we had a lovely stay there, with horses in the field behind us. It had changed a bit since our first few times there in the 1970s. There was no EHU in those days as hardly anyone had it. Our caravan still had gas lights.

We stayed just one night at the C&CC site on the edge of Oxford, by a P&R bus station. I don’t know what their policy is - it may be we were allowed to stay just one night because we couldn’t actually book 2 nights (they were full the second night).
Otherwise, try the Site Search? Independent sites can be better / cheaper that Club ones & have fewer rules. There’ll be something in the area, I’m sure!

2024 = 20 sites / 41 nights. 2023 = 9/23. 2022 = 13/35. 2021 = 11/29. 2020 = 4/20. 2019 = 13/35. 2018 = 20/33. 2017 = 10/22. 2016 = 19/33. 2015 = 15 sites / 27 nights. Didn't count 1976 to 2014.
