To those of you booking a camping pitch and not showing or cancelling, shame on you. If you were to even phone up to say you weren't coming, that would help. Like restaurants, campsite owner are turning down bookings then it is too late to fill them. Look after our site owners, we need them to be a healthy business.

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!

It is not just for camping, it is life in general IMHO, in that if one has made a booking or agreed to attend a function, then one should have the good grace and manner to let the venue/host know as soon as one realises one can no longer make it for whatever reason(s).

If it is an life and death emergency, there is nothing to stop one to make contact after the nuclear fallout has settled down.

I would only make an allowance if the event has been fully paid for, so that the host has not been financially disadvantaged. I would still be annoyed with no contact whatsoever though if I were the host.

Personal opinion and all that.

It's madness.

I recently called our water company up because we had a drop in water pressure. The said they were really busy and short staffed but would send someone out that day. I then saw one of my kids had left the outside tap on full and that was the cause. I called the water company to cancel the call-out and the person on the phone was taken aback. What has society come to! Folk complain when prices increase yet it is folk's laziness and attitudes that often cause the increases in the first place.

Indeed.

I am all for a non-refundable deposit for any type of booking as long as the T&Cs are clearly stated upfront.

As a social event organiser myself, I operate a 3 strikes and you are out system for no shows and would bar them from attending future events that I organise.

Yes I quite agree. I believe that a deposit should be taken for all bookings made and no refunds should be given for cancellations unless a good period of notice is given.

I’ve had to pay in full when booking during the current situation, or pay in full a week before arriving, part of the risk assessment to minimise contact with site staff or card machines etc. Non refundable within 7 days of arrival. No shows are at their own expense.

That sounds quite reasonable to me Fiona, I'd certainly have no problem with that. The idea that people would simply not turn up annoys me, and it would really anger me if I was a site operator. Very inconsiderate.

In my opinion sites at the moment should charge a sizeable deposit returnable on leaving site. This would reduce the no shows and would also stop idiots leaving their tents and gear on site at the end of their holiday.
A site that I have used for years is not opening until September this year when the proper campers return, due to the amount of abandoned equipment that they have had to pay to be taken away in skips.
