When we are going to a new site it's handy to use Google Earth Street View to suss out the site entrance. We can note landmarks and avoid going past the site and having to turn round. Some places suddenly loom up and take you unawares.


Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!

Also have a look on YouTube. There are a lot of videos of arriving at sites by various people. Bob Earnshaw worth a look. They all give the approach roads and iffy looking entrances like Meathop Fell. At least you've got an idea already where to go.

Just returned from a site where access to site was literally the domestic driveway between two bungalows on a street with multiple detached properties! Talk about inconspicuous!

Thankfully the owners gave good instruction on finding the site with landmarks as you neared it and had a large flag to mark the entrance. But no doubt looking at Google Street View first made finding it first time far more reassuring as really the flag was the only thing that was obvious about the actual entrance! The caravan site was behind the properties and not at all visible from the road.

If I'm thinking of going to a different site I always use that, or the aerial view option on bing maps. It did save me from visiting a site that looked good but turned out to be rather too close to an industrial estate of sorts! Narrow escape, there.

I generally use Google Earth for that purpose. I did just that for the site we've just returned from.
