For forty years we've enjoyed our '72 VW camper and for quite a number of those we belonged to the major club for caravanners, using their select 5-pitch farm sites. But as the years passed, we become less enamoured with their annual subscription, their glossy magazine (which, increasingly, held hardly anything of interest for us), and the sheer overpowering size of the outfits (often a 4x4 with twin-axle caravan) on the small sites.
All we wanted was freedom from all this and so, eventually, left that club. By happy chance, some years later, we came across ukcampsite.co.uk, booked our first visit (to Priory Mill near Brecon) and immediately fell in love with not only that site but - on deeper exploration of this website - realised we now have an astonishingly vast choice of places we can carefully choose to stay at.
Very well done, ukcampsite.co.uk, and warmest congratulations!!

Very nice sentiments there VW intent.
I am one of the twin wheeler 4x4 outfitters. So not to your liking I assume.
However each to their own.
Very nice of you to praise the site tho 👍

I am a member of the C&CC, but the first place I go to when looking for a site to stay on is UKCampsite. The overwhelming majority of sites we have stayed on since returning to caravanning have been found through this website, and this forum has filled many hours for me during lock-down.

I am a member of C&CC since 2017, and joined CAMC last year.

Like Colin21, I too come to UKCS to use its Search function when I research for suitable sites for my trips.

There is a vast amount of knowledge and expertise within the helpful UKCS community.

All these are free to use!

Thanks Ratty et al for all your good work which is much appreciated.

I agree that ukcs is a brilliant resource when looking for new places to visit, as well as an interesting and varied online community. Thanks to all involved in keeping it going; long may it continue!

There are people on here whose taste in sites seems to match with ours. So I tend to look at where they have been and their reviews when looking for new areas and sites to visit. Great resource.

We are also one of the people that the OP dislikes as we tow our twin axle with a 4x4. It does Not take much extra room than a caravan and a car.
We don't like campervans as they are small and cramped and driven by ageing hippies!

We split the difference there I think. We are aging hippies who find campervans much too cramped these days for our aging bodies, so we tow a small (by today's standards) elderly caravan with a 4x4.

Ex tenter since 2007 who moved to the dark side this year here due to decline in physical strength, and have never been a hippy.

I do not wish to tow, hence I got a custom converted panel van kitted out to my own design and specifications.

My original base van was a 4x4, however, due to Covid-19, VW could not give me a build date at the end of August 2020 after placing the van order in March 2020. So I decided to look for a lesser spec'ed base van in UK, rather than to wait indefinitely at the mercy of Brexit made worse by the pandemic.

My van is small being a MWB panel van compared with lots of MHs I have seen that are longer and wider.

Thanks, everyone, for your balanced responses to my post. I hope I didn't offend the members with the large outfits. Some years ago, after a long and tiring drive to a C.C. C.L. we parked up with the other three campers against the far hedge to enjoy the spectacular view. Later that day a 4x4 and twin axle outfit arrived and parked slap across the view! The memory has rather stuck in my mind...

Stay safe and well, and happy camping whatever your outfit. (And yes, this really is a damn' fine site isn't it!)
