I read in a north wales local newspaper that '' travellers are coming!!''
The result was an abominale farce.within a few days, all the locals in the little town were up in arms, and the local golf club, dug a huge deep ditch, around the entire golf course, and set up barricades all along the ditch.when the travellers eventually arrived, about two or three weeks later,( it took that long, for the councillors and police to keep diverting them off side roads, and back onto the route towards the little town ),they were met with violence and abuse from the people who lived there.they were forced to move on immediately, due to it all.a few letters in the newspaper pointed out, that the travellers were forced to take that route, and it was a deliberate set up to trap them,so they would get violently abused, and taught the hard way they were never welcome there again.
The travellers moved on,with a newspaper photographer, secretly in tow.he took pictures of their sites after they had left, and to be fair, they were in an abominable state.piles of bin bags full of rubbish, the ground churned up badly, huge sections of vans just lying around rusting.
since then, the travellers have started to camp on school playing fields etc,and refused to leave.when they do leave, they leave the same mess behind.
personally speaking, i think it would be good,if the travellers cleaned up after themselves, and forced any criminal elements travelling with them,to stop violating peoples property.and yet,on the other hand, who can blame them for their attitude, when an entire town, plans before they even arrive,to build barricades, ditches and work out which weapons they will use to violently scare these '' PEOPLE WITH CHILDREN '' away with.
I am still angry, those little town people and their golf club members have not been prosecuted for severe racism and hate crimes.

We rang a site last Feb near Nottinghm to book a pitch and the chap told us that he was warden there for the winter, the owner had gone on away and let the site to travellers and it was a bit of a state. He was willing to book us in but said he wanted us to be aware of the situation. I think that was pretty decent of him for telling us up front.

We didn't book in.

Im sorry blacklagoon but the pikeys got everything they deserved! They are nasty people with ideals that just suit themselves with no consideration to others whatsoever unless it benefits them. I have no problem with 'workmen' using sites but when these pikey vermin start infesting our hobby then I will stop caravanning completely.....strong but thats just the way it is. Unless you have had to live close to them ,have them tearing up the countryside near you, or have them hold businesses to ransom just for them to move on then good on that village in North Wales for standing up to them!
