This is a request for some site recommendations please to help me show my gf that camping in uk is cool! (She’s an Aussie)
We live in North London and want to go away this weekend. We’re open to any area within a 4 hour drive from home. Ideally back to basics camping, dog friendly and not too far from a pub/pubs. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

You posted a very similar question on 13/08/2010. Same Four hours from London, same wish for a basic site. You said you’d say how you got on, but you never did.
Can’t help, sorry, not an area I know: I’d use Site Search but I’m sure you’ll get some recommendations soon, to add to the 2010 ones (if they’re still open & still basic).

Here is the previous thread that may help with previous recommendations.

There are loads of sites that will suit your needs. Maybe you could narrow it down a bit, when you say Back to Basics, are you talking no facilities at all, or will you want toilets / showers.

Do you want complete silence in the middle of nowhere with no phone signal, or just nice countryside away from it all, but close enough to still enjoy the benefits of modern living.

Do you want walking from the site, or just somewhere to sit and chill?

Hi Ratty we will want toilets and showers, phone signal would be nice as we have kids at home who may want to call. Pub within 30 minute walk would be icing on the cake.
