Hi Everyone,

We have been camping as a family for the past 10 years. First with my wife and I, but we are now a family of six (four all 10 and under) and sadly, last year, our 2017 Studland 8 air Kampa tent gave up after 6 weeks of summer camping (per year) for the past four years. It did very well considering it was made of polyester!

We are now going to buy a polycotton tent, which needs to be big enough to fit us all. Sadly we have hit a wall. These tents, like the Dometic Ascension 601 TC or Outdoor Revolution Kalahari 7.0 SE, that we have been looking at, are quite big (the Kalahari 9.0 SE is just massive) and our issue and is that we know that there are many campsites throughout the UK, even ones we have been to before, that would now not be able to accommodate tents like this, when before they were 'just' ok with our Kampa Studland 8 (plus our extention).

The absolute in our situation is that we need to buy a large polycotton tent, but it is the campsites and if we can pitch them. I would say that the pitch size would need to be 10m x 10m.

If you know of any campsites, please share or any other kind of help in this situation, I would be most grateful. We have mainly camped in Cornwall, Devon, Wales and Northumberland, but open to other places too!

Many thanks
Paul

We stayed at the.....Monkey Tree campsite .... perranporth last year. 10mins in car to perranporth- same to Newquay.
We was in our caravan, however had a walk around the massive site as you do!!
Some of the biggest tents I have ever seen. pitches are humungous.
To be totally honest, it was NOT our cuppa tea, a little noisy upto 11.30pm Plenty of things for the kids, new pool just been installed. However we are approaching 70.. so coco at 9pm lights out at 10.
Other that that, its worth a look.

Forgot to mention....Toilet blocks are a plentiful, and no matter what time of day we went, they was spotless.👍👍👍

You're more than welcome Paul....
Another plus point to this site was / is laundry facilities we noticed!! yes washers and driers. Not that we needed. Just a nice touch when going with a large family, we thought.
Don't get me wrong, we would visit again, just not in high season when kids are off school.
It's not the cheapest place, however, what is these days!!!
Morrison's, lidl, Aldi, McDonald's only 5mins in car Now that's a plus.

Happy camping.

Kevin-T........

Drumroamin Farm campsite, between Newton Stewart & Garlieston in Galloway. Grass pitches, 10x10m. Excellent reviews on UKCS.
And CCC has what they call “jumbo pitches” on many of its sites:
“ Pitches for Large Tents
If your tent measures more than 5m by 9m, you can now make bookings on grass pitches, with or without electric hook-up, on Club Sites.
You'll pay a supplement, along with the service pitch fee if appropriate.
Please look for the Jumbo pitch icons on the sites page.”

Witches Craig outside Stirling has a large tent field that can accomodate you.

Gets excellent reviews everywhere.

Many private sites seem to have a large area for tents without any demarcation of pitches. Luckily there are very big tents but also very small tents so marking out pitch boundaries doesn't really work.

These have to be non electric though as EHU does set out the size.

As already said….any campsite with random pitching on large open fields rather than sites with regimented defined pitches in straight lines. Look at campsite photos on websites to see what the site is like . One example near the coast in Cornwall is Beacon Cottage Farm but there are dozens of others.

I was booking a pitch with the Camping and Caravanning Club a few days ago and I noticed that in the choice of pitch type, they offered a jumbo tent pitch. As I was booking for a caravan I didn’t pay any further attention to it but it might be worth looking at what size these jumbo pitches are and how many CCC sites have them.

You’re right.

CotswoldView pitches are 10x10 large and often families take two pitches and last weekend there were some mighty tunnel tents pitched Outwell, Vango, Kampa etc. We also looked at some dutch tents in a showroom yesterday Karsten cotton, pretty impressive and with new cotton specifications quite lightweight and innovative frame installation.

Go to Red Bank Farm, Bolton le Sands. 2 fields, right on Morecambe Bay, plenty of unmarked space. See the reviews on here.
