For anyone planning to do the North Coast 500, I am pleased to say that the Wick Caravan and Camping Site will be reopening, hopefully in Mid June.
The site has been taken over by Wick Development Trust, as a coomunity enterprise, so any profits generated from the site will be pumped back into the local community to help regenerate the area.
It is also planned to replacethe amenities block within the next few years to a modern 5 star facility.
Hopefully admin picks this up, as they update the directory.
It’s an ownership model that works - Silvercraigs at Kirkcudbright was Council owned, it’s now run by the community, profits go to running the swimming pool & upgrading the site. Might be worth getting in touch with them.
Good luck with the venture!
For anyone travelling up / down the E. Coast (yes folks, Scotland does have an E. coast) Portsoy campsite is also part of the community enterprise scheme. As well as the annual traditional boat festival, Portsoy was the location for the re-make of 'Whisky Galore' and also features in an episode of 'Peaky Blinders'.
------------- Two drifters off to see the world.
I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
Bonny place, Portsoy. The boats at the festival are beautiful too.
Didn’t know about the community enterprise scheme, so thank you for that information.
As well is two words!
