Hi, can anyone help? Am looking for basic sites with just a tap and a toilet for small tent camping. The cheaper and more basic the better; no EHU etc required; more remote the better but beer gardens would work too. Specifically in Lake District, NY Moors and Yorkshire Dales. Me and son want to use them as base camp for running/walking adventures.
We found Tarn Foot Campsite near Ambleside via ukcampsite and it was perfect for our needs and only £6 pppn.

Also found Buck Inn

thx
Dave

The Camping & Caravanning Club have lots of Certificated basic sites. We often used them when we had a campervan and they were good value. Usually a tap and toilet emptying facility so we had a toilet tent with a Porta Potti.

Thank you T.O.D ... does one have to be a member to use those sites? ... i seem to recall turning up, ad hoc, en bicyclette, and being accepted without membership in the past, but perhaps that was at the discretion of the owner.

Officially, one needs to be a member of C&CC in order to use their Certified Sites.

You found your previous sites through the UKCS directory. It should work equally well for your current plans. Tick on what you want in the Site Search.

2024 = 20 sites / 41 nights. 2023 = 9/23. 2022 = 13/35. 2021 = 11/29. 2020 = 4/20. 2019 = 13/35. 2018 = 20/33. 2017 = 10/22. 2016 = 19/33. 2015 = 15 sites / 27 nights. Didn't count 1976 to 2014.

Thanks Fiona... i've been at that for a few days now but that method seems to find things one DOES want not limit it down to what one does NOT want.
Example.. if i tick tents i get every site that does tents +EHU +playground +microwave +chip shop +wankel rotary engine +... if you see what i mean. Maybe i am using the selections wrongly. Advice appreciated.

You might find some hostels allows tents in their grounds, and use of their toilets. National Trust, for example.
