My niece wants to go solo camping with her dog. Have you ever taken your dog into the shower block with you? She is concerned that if he is left he will bark and get upset.
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
As one site notice put it recently - “absolutely no animals whatsoever allowed in the toilet block”.
Tie the dog up outside if needs be, where it won’t trip people up, but it might bark? So start training the dog now, so it can be left alone for 30 minutes otherwise you can’t go shopping or to the dentist (where dogs aren’t allowed either). Put your coat on, take it off & repeat until dog isn’t bothered. Go out the door, shut it, come straight back; repeat until dog is ok. Go out, count to 10, come back. And build it up slowly. Put the tent up in the back garden & practice too. Our previous dog was an escape artist, we had to leave her on a lead outside the tent as she could use her nose to open the zip.
I camped solo for many years with my dog.
My dog did not bark so I could leave it in the tent or in the car when I went to the shower block and leave it in the car for a short time when I went shopping.
The problem is that you might think that your dog doesn't bark when left alone but the reality is that you don't know.
When I told a lady that her dog had been barking all day she told me that that couldn't be true because it never barked when left alone!

I have yet to come across a campsite that would allow dogs into the shower block since 2009, sorry!

I guess all-day barking is why some sites have a rule saying you can’t leave your dog alone in your unit. A bit of a problem when you want a shower or a trip to the supermarket.
They’d only know if the dog barks, however. For several reasons, we know ours just sleeps.
I can't leave Bean tethered outside the van as he would bark if I am out of his sight while he is outside.
He is fine when he is tethered inside the van in the living area and can't reach any of the windows - I tested this by closing the door and waited outside on a number of occasions and he did not bark.
He is tethered inside the van as he is an escape artist and would try to sneak out as soon as I open the van door. He did that once and I have wised up!
