We are travelling down to Devon next Friday and i am looking for somewhere to stop overnight, services are a bit to pricey now. Does anybody know a decent layby we can spend the night in on the A38, i shall be using the M5 but they run more or less parallel so could come of at some point, was thinking about Weston Super Mare area about a hour or so from junction 30

Not a member of any club, been a caravanner for over 20 yrs and used laybys all over just not while travelling down to Cornwall or Devon, why do you say don't do it ?
Laybys this time of year fill up quite early in evening best find an over night stay as looking for an empty one you could well be at your destination. Devon and Cornwall everyone seems to be going there these next few weeks.

I say don't do it because it's against the law, you are lucky that you have not been caught, plus it must be noisy. Each to their own though, if that is your way, then carry on. Someone may be able to advise you.
i would think its only against the law if it states "no overnight parking"
granted most of them in the south west ,do state that, but maybe near weston there may be one or two

Not sure how far down you are travelling, but the A38 is practically there.
Having just got back from Devon, i would urge you to do your research regarding last few miles to your sites. I had forgot how narrow some of the roads are (vegetation touching both mirrors at the same time), with some sites only having one passable road to them, despite there being 2 or 3 that actually approached - only being passable by small campervans at best.
It isn't illegal, there is no law that is applicable, it is a civil offence which could be enforced by the council or the police if you are causing an obstruction.

There's a couple of decent laybys on A38 between Wellington (m5 junction 26) and Sampford Peverall (M5 junction 27) but they do fill with lorries at times. There is a small campsite just off junction 27 ( onto A361 North devon link Road, leave at first junction), called Minnows.
