Hi everyone,

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Myself and my family (3 children and wife) are currently selling our property with the hope of relocating to West/East Sussex. The house we fell in love with unfortunately fell through.

Rather than hold the chain up, we continue to sell our home. Most people would usually find somewhere to rent, however, we thought the possibility of Camping would be a much more adventurous choice whilst we found our forever home.

Ideally, we would purchase a circa 30ft American Travel Trailer or a 5th Wheel due to the increased space and size when the slide-outs are extended.

We would be looking for a seasonal pitch with an electric hook up to have the comfort of a semi-permanent unit on a site open all year round whilst we looked for a property in the area.

Do any of you know any sites that can accommodate this?

Some sites specify 21 day maximum stay, however, a trip off site to the local supermarket would reset those starting days?

Appreciate all honesty and if this is even a possibility.

All questions are welcomed.

Thank you in advance.

Sam

I think you have misunderstood the 21 day rule, you have to remove yourselves for 2 days or 1 day if you stay for 20 days it's not just a matter of going to the local supermarket.

Thanks for your comment.

Nothing was misunderstood from a conversation I had with a member of staff at a holiday park in the area.

Their response was what I mentioned and when questioned they said, "it's not policed so..."

Hence why I would like clarification from other people who may be doing more "fulltime" living that experience this.

You stated some sites have a 21 day maximum stay, I was speaking in general as it is a planning thing, if you happened to speak to a person who told you that, it then makes a total mockery of the 21 day maximum stay, so everytime you go to the supermarket (possibly once a week) it will reset the time will it, I don't think so. I think you should ask each site manager what they have planning for.

Hi Tina,

Yes it does seem so which is why I am here asking for clarification or if anyone else has experienced this.

I guess my question to you is how do people who live "Full Time" in their Caravan/Camper manage based on these stipulations?

Thanks

If you wanted to camp permanently in one place you would need to seek out a site with a 12 month residential licence. For the price of a fifth wheeler you could probably buy a static caravan on a residential site. As such you would be required to pay Council Tax. Van lifers (people who live in their vans all the time) tend to move around rather than staying in one place. Some touring sites are licenced for 10 months of the year and it is possible that you could find a seasonal pitch on such a site. It depends whether your permanent housing would be settled by then. Another possible problem if you are intending to make the decision now is that a lot of site close January and February.

David

Hi David,

Thanks for the reply.

The house is still going through, so would probably be around Feb/March before it completes anyway.

Hence doing as much research as we possibly can now.

The only thing I found with residential parks is they are for the over 65 and don't allow children.

the rest, as you say, are more holiday parks and then the 21-day period kicks in.

Whilst this is not an issue, it then starts adding up in costs to keep moving and pay site to site for 21 days or so.

Ends up being cheaper to Rent a property whilst we find our ideal house.

This is the most "logical" thing to do but where is the fun in that? :)

Have you considered a 6 berth caravan with bunk beds for the children? You would still have to move between sites every 21 days of course.

Thanks for your reply.

We are exploring all options, and we did consider the 6th berth.

The only issue we found was that the bunks are only double, so would need to share a bed.

Are there any triple bunk options?

The American style Trailers, because they slide out, offer the ability to have a 3/4 bunk option.

This being said, I saw this on Autotrader with 4 bunks!

The price seems very steep, though.
