You were looking for National Trust type places. I recommend the interactive map on the website for the Historic Houses Association, which shows a number of houses & gardens in the area, all of which are still lived in (unlike most NT places) www.historichouses.org . Opening times will vary from daily to a few days a year, but some are only open for pre arranged visits which won’t be suitable for you. Entry ticket cost seems to be directly related to size / how much of the place you get to see (free entry to Castle Howard, Blenheim, Longleat, Highclere, Scone, Inveraray etc soon pays back our HHA membership.) There look to be some very attractive places in Norfolk / Suffolk, not just Sandringham but also Holkham & many others, some much smaller but very pretty. It’s a bit of a faff opening up each marker on the map, easier with the handbook, but it might provide a day out, or two.
------------- 2024 = 20 sites / 41 nights. 2023 = 9/23. 2022 = 13/35. 2021 = 11/29. 2020 = 4/20. 2019 = 13/35. 2018 = 20/33. 2017 = 10/22. 2016 = 19/33. 2015 = 15 sites / 27 nights. Didn't count 1976 to 2014.

Thanks Fiona, I’ll check that out.
