Possibly looking to do a tour of the Cumbria coast (been all over the Lake District), just wondered if anyone has stayed at the above mentioned CS lately? It would appear to be the closest site for caravans and with ehu to Wasdale Head.

I've not stayed there but it's right next to the A595 and near to Sellafield so it will have a fair bit of road noise.

Have you considered Church Stile near Wastwater or the Old Post Office at Santon Bridge if you're wanting to be near Wasdale, I think both have EHU.

If you're in Gosforth I recommend the bakery!

Thanks, are they club or independent sites? Thanks for the bakery recommendation, although we shouldn't really eat it!

Both independent, both expensive but most sites are in that area.

We had a look at this site when passing a few years ago but weren't over impressed. As mentioned, it is right next to the main road and as I recall, it gave the impression of more of a car park than a campsite.
Have you had a look at Newbiggin Farm CS at Waberthwaite, near Ravenglass? A bit further from Wasdale Head and Wastwater but a better option (in my opinion) than the Red Admiral. There are also a couple of fairly new CLs nearby with good reviews, the High Boonwood Skyline not far from the Red Admiral, and Holmside, about a mile beyond Gosforth, though these are a bit pricier and I've not seen them personally.

Thanks all, have noted those other sites so will probably stay at one of them. Not the expensive independent ones though. I know that £25 is normal now but not £40!

Don’t fret if you don’t get to Wasdale (aka “Britain’s Favourite View”). You’ll have seen equal or better elsewhere, knowing roughly where you’ve been in UK from the questions you’ve asked.
Levens Hall (south part of your search area, near Arnside & Silverdale AONB ) is beautiful, the hundreds of topiaried shapes is like an Alice in Wonderland chess set.

Thanks Fiona, we have been to Levens Hall. Think that was on our way to Donegal in 2019. Now looking at Newbiggin CS which is about a mile off the A595, near the Esk estuary.

If you go there, pop into Woodall's butcher's (at the top end of the lane, also houses the Post Office) for some genuine Cumberland sausage, bacon etc, by Royal Appointment. You could also have a trip on L'aal Ratty (the Ravenglass - Eskdale railway) - we can highly recommend the afternoon tea at the station cafe at Eskdale, not exactly refined but delicious and very filling - and visit Muncaster Castle with its bird of prey display and daily heron feeding, as well as the usual house and gardens. Ravenglass itself is worth a wander round (basically just 1 street leading down to the shore, though has a selection of pubs and cafes and a high end hotel), and if you're lucky you'll see some spectacular sunsets.
Oh, and Seascale is great if you like quiet, unspoilt beaches and St. Bees Head just up the coast is well worth a visit- though usually windy!
Whitehaven is the nearest town with a supermarket, so I would stock up before you go, but the marina is very pleasant for a wander round and it's easy to get to by train from the station at Ravenglass (easier than car parking!).
Make sure you allow yourself plenty of time when travelling - most of the roads round there were not built for speed.

Thanks Bofs. We have been around there before but when staying elsewhere, never done a specific tour.

Nearest large supermarket perhaps but there are plenty of Co-ops etc in the villages which are fine for holiday provisions, on top of visiting local businesses.

We have used very many Co ops in many different places when touring. We find them ok. Would prefer supermarkets but they are thin on the ground in places
