Looking for a touring site around York/Wakefield area.
Ideally a restaurant/bar on site or a short stroll away.
Kid friendly/Play park would be nice
and for the big ask.......

A working farm where the little man can see animals :)

Thanks in advamce

Until all the suggestions start rolling in (I can’t help as my wish list is different), try the Site Search. The working farm is the most limiting requirement though.

I don’t know the area very well so can’t advise but you will find a lot of CL/CS small 5 van sites are based on working farms but usually these are quite basic sites and wouldn’t have a bar, restaurant or play park. These sites are often a way for farmers to make a bit of extra money by using one of their fields for 5 units.

Sites with bars, restaurants and play parks will usually be large commercial ventures and therefore not connected to a farm. There might be some out there and if there are, someone on here is bound to be able to advise you, but my initial thought is that the two things you are looking for might be mutually exclusive and you might need to decide which is more important to you - either the farm location or more facilities.

If you can't find the other things you want on a working farm, maybe look for a site near one of the places listed on the link? https://yorkshiretots.com/yorkshire-farms-visit-spring/

Start with our Working Farm Campsite search in the Wakefield / York area, then add playground to the filters, plus maybe bar within a mile etc

Cheers

I agree with Pixie's comments. Most working farm sites are just that - working farms, operated by individuals, where one or more of the fields have been modified to accept a small number of caravans/motorhomes/tents in order to provide a secondary source of income. Those sites that include on-site bars/restuarants and purpose-built play facilities tend to be the larger, more commercial ones.

If the farm animals are the main draw, one of the best working farm sites in Yorkshire has to be Pear Tree Farm near Castle Howard. There is no formal play area as such but there is a small indoor games room and lots of outdoor open space. The owner, Becky, is a delight who loves to have children help her feed the farm animals. The biggest compromise is food and drink - there are some good village pubs in the area but these are driving rather than walking distance away.

Have not been myself but came across a CS at Cawthorne near Barnsley. Not sure what facilities you need or whether you are a member of CCC but this site is in a idyllic spot, located between Barnsley & Wakefield. Cannon Hall country park is on the doorstep (cannon hall farm is featured on the tv programme ‘Springtime on the Farm’, I think that’s the title but not sure). The farm is a tourist attraction so there are admission fees but there are nice eateries, play areas, a lovely village & garden centre close by. Yorkshire Sculpture Park is also not too far away.

I think this CS is Cinderhill Farm. (There’s another site at nearby Penistone where I’ve stayed for visiting family in Cawthorne, but it’s not a farm.) It doesn’t advertise anything locally, so the OP would need to ask them about access to any farm animals. And need to drive to Cannon Farm, as it’s not walking distance away.
