£2 a day will not even give you 3kwh of power. At a guess I would think that most people with a caravan or motorhome would use at least 6-7kwh per day or about £5 in the summer without heating, but having hot water.

IMHO VERY wide of the mark Ian! I estimate my summer daily usage at around 1.5kWh, perhaps 2kWh if I'm heavy on the hot water usage! It's only a 10 litre capacity hot water tank with a 900W/1.8kW heating element! - takes around 20 mins to heat to highest 60C temp possible! I only set mine to highest temp if I'm using the onboard shower, otherwise for general hot water it's only set to 40C setting and then only when I'm occupying the van. If I'm not in the van, about the only electrical demand is the battery charger!
Occasional use of 800W cooker hob for 10 mins or so, 1kW on microwave for no more than a few minutes in total. All other power demands are very low and only for a few hours, so absolutely NO scope for 6-7kwh per day!!!!!!!

Next time you are on a site check your consumption using a meter and you will be surprised. Anyway using about 2kwh a day at today's prices is still close to £2. Bring on metered pitches for those that think they only use a kwh or two.

I agree with a metered pitch if I use it then I don’t mind paying for it 😂

I think that the best way is to have a price with so many units of electricity included as we found on several sites last year. Go over that limit, pay the extra.

Just booked another site yesterday that we have previously used and stated this year electric prepay for at reception on arrival. But the cost of the super pitch has dropped considerably, and as we don’t use a lot of electric may even work out cheaper. We will see.

My thoughts precisely. It's when you go on a site with metered electricity that you really find out how little you do actually use. I knew I didn't use that much, but even I was surprised when I went on that site in 2019 and found the meter had charged me £2.80 for a whole two weeks electricity. I did know however that £3 a night for an "electric pitch" was a rip off as I didn't use much more than that at home in summer at the time, and that was for gas and electric combined in a 3 bedroom house. (2019 prices)

I wrote to CMC after reading March article on 'cheap breaks', as their pricing headlines I thought were misleading. I did get a reply, several paragraphs, justifying it. Not convinced, think probably written by someone from the legal department. Did mention that I only belong because of the CL's.

We recently received our domestic energy bill which we took an in depth look at the price increase this time. Yes, the electricity prices have increased significantly but it's the gas price that's escalated dramatically far more than the electricity so in reflection of this it appears the campsites are overcharging excessively for their electric hook up per night. Everything in our household is powered by electricity apart from the gas boiler for the central heating so when you consider the amount of electricity consumed for electrical appliances in the home which incorporates the fridge freezer, electric free standing cooker, washing machine, dishwasher, electric kettle, microwave, Television, desktop PC, phone charging and lighting is far greater than what you use on a daily basis in a caravan or motorhome. Yes, the campsites need to increase their electricity prices respectively but it makes you wonder if they have had a hard look at exactly how much the electricity prices have actually increased in the last 12 months or have they increased them to focus on a greater profit margin. I could have some reflection regarding Covid-19 when all the campsites had to close down as they lost a lot of revenue during that period therefore so it could be a discreet way of recuperating their losses. However, we are visiting a C&CC CS site in May this year which we visited the same site last year in May and have been informed that their prices have now increased by a whopping £4 per night.

We looked at a Club site for 5 nights in May. £200 for standard pitch with EHU or £175 off-grid. So they are still charging £5 a night to hook up.
Found an off-grid CL 2 miles from the Club site, £75.
Still pricey at £15 a night but a darn sight better than the Club price.

The CLs should always be cheaper than the full Club sites, with far fewer overheads: no teams of Managers to pay salaries for a start, no permanent office to light & heat, probably no Wi-Fi, etc.
Independent sites can be just as high a standard as Club sites, they don’t have Head Office staff & overheads etc to pay for and are still (just) in the £20s pn for hardstand, toilets, showers. EHU.
The rising cost of diesel has increased the cost of our trips away, but we still go.

However in many cases the CL owner is paying commercial rates as it is common to use one phase of a three phase system to power the CL.

Typically, business electricity is cheaper than domestic electricity. However, this may not always be the case.

With business energy contracts, customers are tied to the contracts, unlike with domestic energy. You can only cancel your current business energy contracts if you reach your end date or move business premises.

I was wondering if anyone else is having bother getting sites to respond to request that are sent through the contact form on here.
Both sites are open year round.

I know this was discussed before but can't find the topic.
