Recently been quoted 168 pound for a grass pitch on catgill farm skipton, and then also a really good site waterside farm having a minimum 5 day stay. Anyone else had enough of this cash grab the reason given was absolutely ridiculous too.

Can't comment on the £168 as no idea what it's for or for how long!

Minimum stay, I have some sympathy for, there are numerous occasions where I've been unable to book a week or more because ONE day is fully booked during my desired period! The site is full for ONE day, but near empty for the days around it! - not a good business model for the site owner, and thwarts longer stay bookings.

Quite common for minimum period bookings at w/e or BH for the reasons above.

That said, occasionally I've needed to break a long journey with a single overnight stay, and that does seem to be a fairly common requirement for many, so I can see both sides.

The 168 was for a grass pitch for 3 nights, I just think since covid prices have jumped up so much.

3 minimum is fine on a bank hol but 5 is ridiculous just a serious cash n grab opportunity for the bank holiday and jumped the price up from 90 to 190, the reason given was that if groups broke the rules they had more to lose even though this said site didnt book groups. No sympathy for us who don't break rules.

£56/night does seem pretty steep on the face of it, but for how many people, what unit, and what services to pitch, grass or otherwise.

No doubt prices have risen dramatically in past 2 or 3 years, Covid and EHU costs can't justifiable be claimed as the reason in many cases, it's just blatant profiteering where pricing reflects what the market will bear, and unfortunately there does seem to have been a mass influx of campers with little concept of value, who will pay almost anything asked! These reckless free spenders ruin the experience for a great many of us on tighter budgets or even just a better sense of value for money!

I've stayed overnight in Travelodges for less than that, and got a reasonable room with en-suite toilet, bath & shower, TV, and all bedding laundry taken care of. I certainly wouldn't pay that to rent a patch of grass on which to put my own accommodation! A real rip-off.

If it is during a school holiday, then the minimum stay of 5 nights for a popular site is not unreasonable IMHO.

If it is only 3-night minimum for school holidays, the pitches could be taken up by the weekenders, for part of the week being under-use, and the site could be losing out.

By having 5-night minimum for school holidays, they have a better chance of filling the site for more days.

It is about maximising profit and loss for a business, which I can appreciate.

If I don't want to pay the price or stay for 5 nights, I can find somewhere else.

I have booked a site in the Netherlands near Edam in May 2024 and they required 7-night minimum as it is during school holidays.

Essex is much maligned in my opinion. There are some beautiful parts of Essex and Hertfordshire if you look around, but don't tell everyone or we'll get overrun!

We don't tend to go away at this time of year, although we did have a day out recently and went down to Canvey Island.

I haven't ever come across any length-of-stay restrictions, but that may be because we never go away in school holidays or over bank holidays.

I used to work at Orsett Hospital - quite a few years ago though!

It's not in the school holidays it's on the bank holiday so most people will be off for the 3 days not the 5 unless of course they book it off I just think its unfair of sites to do it I get that other people don't mind the 5 but I just think it's abit brass neck

That's one of the reasons we usually start our holidays on a Monday. Sites that are booked solid over the weekend are often half empty on the Monday. What often surprises me though is that if I try to book for 10 days starting on the Saturday, the response is "fully booked". Try the following weekend starting Saturday and the result is the same. But if I start on the Monday I can book 10 days no problem. Where did those vacancies suddenly come from on my middle weekend?

My booking on the Monday must help the site owners too, as much of their trade is at weekends.

Iv looked at sites in France and most have got all the bells and whistles and are half the price of most basic sites in the UK.

Just been to a site at the other end of the country, between Halstead and Sudbury. Reviews of both to do soon. Looking forward to Tilbury Fort, the foot ferry over the Thames and the bird reserves.
