On the site search on UKCS. I thought that I had entered Farnham, Surrey. I mistakenly entered Fareham, Hampshire and found Carefree Nurseries CL at Titchfield. No longer a nursery, it looks ideal.

In the spring of 2009 whilst touring in France, we were heading for a campsite we had used before but from a different route. As we passed through another village we spotted a campsite sign and decided to check it out. It was so charming and cheap we stayed, and have been back every year since, often staying twice.
We were gutted when it closed during Covid and didn't reopen, however now it has, though as a Camping carparc site. Mery sur Seine.

We rolled up to Moffat CCC site without booking & it was full (as usual), so we were turned away without any suggestions of where else to try. We continued south on the M74 & stopped at Hoddom Castle as the campsite symbol was on my map. It was ok, so it’s our backup if Moffat is full or not allowing single nights.

-------------
2025=3 sites, 5 nights; 2024 = 20 sites / 41 nights. 2023 = 9/23. 2022 = 13/35. 2021 = 11/29. 2020 = 4/20. 2019 = 13/35. 2018 = 20/33. 2017 = 10/22. 2016 = 19/33. 2015 = 15 sites / 27 nights. Didn't count 1976 to 2014.

yeh, happened to us earlier this year, i booked 2 weeks on a cl, near Burnham on sea, and turned up after a 250 mile drive, and owner said i was'nt booked on there, it was a mix up of return calls during booking, so i phoned 4 more cl's in the area, and they all said ,it was'nt them either, anyway the owner of the site we turned up on said we could stay there, and it was great, still no idea where the return call came from, but it all worked out in the end

We found another site, at Sommieres in France. We were heading towards a site further north and stopped in a town for a lunch break, on a car park by a river. As we ate, we watched lots of people crossing the river on a footbridge, so after lunch we went across to see what was going on. We found a brocante market, then next to it we found a municipal campsite. We walked in and asked if they had a pitch, which they did, so we went back to collect the van and drove round to it. And loved the town so much we've been back most years.

We found one in the Borders at £5 a night with free trout fishing and the lady brought veg and eggs from her garden to the caravan most mornings.

She closed it a few years later due to those turning up late evening and leaving early morning without paying and causing too many problems

Not by accident, but we were sitting in the queue to board at Portsmouth when our first stopover site, the municipal at Beaumont Sur Sarthe rang to tell us they were cancelling our booking as they had been flooded. They suggested a site in the neighbouring village of Fresnay and having a four hour drive ahead in France we booked it straight away, without any further research. It turned out to be a lovely site and we've recommended to lots of people since.

We discovered a new area by accident! We live in Liverpool so when we head north, we usually just zip up the M6 and end up in the Lake District. The bit in between Liverpool and the Lakes is just something to drive past on the motorway. However, this year my husband stumbled upon an article in a magazine about the Arnside and Silverdale AONB so we decided to check it out. It’s only 1.5 hours from home (towing) and has now become our favourite place for a weekend away. The only problem is the small narrow roads, so we stay at Bay View Caravan Site which is just on the southern edge of the area and has great access, and then we strike out from there to explore with just the car.

Well done pixie for finding my old stamping ground. Morecambe Bay is beautiful, lots of places to visit. Have you found Glasson Dock on the south side, good for a walk down the canal. Don't miss the Church where I got married.
Also you can get the train from Carnforth to places on the Bay in the south Lakes.

Over twenty years ago I was looking for Fairy Glen near Betws-y-Coed. I didn't find it, but was getting tired so followed a campsite sign up a narrow lane to find somewhere to stay the night. That was indeed a happy accident; Rynys has been my favourite site ever since, and I've stayed there many times and always felt at peace. Haven't been back since it changed hands, but I hope to go again in 2025.
