I'm from Cambridge and want to take a friend wild or free camping, that is without a campsite. Could get to the area and park car somewhere , alternatively public transport, happy to walk there with gear for a few hours for the right spot. Have only done this once before in brecon beacons.

Any Suggestions? Please include directions/location, water supply and hazards in reply  

How about wild camping in lake district on the highest peak in England? Check out this spot(click link below) just below the scafell peak ( grid ref NY218080 )if you fancy a bit of wild camping....just off the path, a short way before the peak in a kind of personal,natural amphitheatre.

Parking free overnight at Seathewaite at start of track to peak.

Nice day walk up then next day down, no scrambling on the paths....no real hazards.

Water source from small streams at this small wild camp spot is clean as no livestock at this altitude.

I like the sound of that Neil.  Filed away for a future trip.  Does the corridor route lead towards the carpark at Seathewaite.  Also, is it possible to park a van there, ie. height restrictions?

Do you have any more like that?  I have heard about some hidden "hanging" valleys on Pen-Y-Ghent.

Yes the corridor route does lead down to Seathewaite from the peak. Yes it possible to park a van there, no height restrictions. Even a big merc. Hikers just park along the 1 mile long roadside at seathewaite track start. It is not an offical park but it beats the extortion and clamping threats at the seatoller car park! Safe enuff for an overnight park. Its a great wild camp allowing first peak in the morning b 4 the masses arrive.

Thanks so much for your advice, especially good news that the water is likely to be clean as my experience in the Brecon Beacons was not quite like this (the source was a dead sheep upstream whoops!!!!!!)

 I'm excited already!!! I remember camping at the site north of Wastwater in torrential rain about 12 years ago, so I hope that this spot near the peak defies it's record for the heaviest rainfall!!!!

Being greedy for new experiences, I'm going to start a new thread on beach camping

Wild camping seeme to happen mostly in Scotland.
