Hoping to go to the Isle of Wight for 10 days next weekend.

Have narrowed it down to 3 sites.

Ninham Country Holidays, Appuldurcombe Gardens Holiday Park and Southland Camping Park.

We like a site that can offer good size level pitches as our frame tent is large, with room to park the car on th pitch and still have room to put a table outside the tent if weather permits. Play area is a must suitable for a 4 and 6yr old. Pool is a bonus but not essential. Dont like rowdy sites with noisy club houses. Anyone stayed at any of the above sites recently or at peak times that can give me their opinion. ANy other recommendations would be welcome too. Any specific fave pitches?

Also, if anyone has stayed at Ninham would you recommend the Orchard or Meadow camping areas?

Any tips welcoe as this will be our first visit to the Isle of Wight

We have just been to The Orchards ,lovely play park ,games room ,good size flat pitch for our trailer tent, great outdoor pool, and an indoor one which we didn't need as it was lovely weather, very quiet and peacefull when we were there ,not a commercial site so I would have thought this would be the case evan in August.

My 3 girls are already asking to go back next year ,we had a wonderful week and highly recommend this !

hope you have a great time whereever you end up!!

Well I live here on the Island and I'll say Appuldurcome is more family with southlands being more adult.

Appul is more sheltered with Southlands more open to the elements but Southlands is more central if you plan on a little touring.

The orchards is nice with an indoor (fee) pool and outdoor pool. Only a local social club of sorts.... yes, of sorts unless your willing to drive.

If and when you do make it to the island visit these two pubs for fantastic, quality cooked fresh food.

It's difficult to park on the seafront at ventnor and I'd advise against taking a motorhome down there. If you can park in town at the top and walk down you will not be hard done by. The food is suuuuuperb.

For fossil hunters take the military road and park at either Brook or Compton which both have NT carparks. Between these two places you'll see a pepperpot amongst a rocken outcrop.

At low water roll up your trousers and walk across the petrified forest onto what looks like a giant tilted table top. If you pay close attention to the detail under your feet you'll see dinosaur footprints. Great for the kids as they can stand in them and if you keep your eyes open on the way back you can find petrified wood, fools gold etc.

Prodisc,

Have booked 10 nights at Ninham. To get the cheap ferry fare we have to get the 7am ferry from SHampton to East Cowes on a Sunday morning. Cos our pitch is on change over we cannot "check in " till after 1pm. Any ideas of somewhere to stop off with the kids to pass a few hours enroute? If the weather is good we will probably just head straight to a beach but could do with some ideas incase the weather is poor. Bear in mind the car will be loaded to the roof with no way of disguising the fact we are enroute to  campsite!!

Thanks Emma
