Hi,

Can anybody recommend a good family camp-site in or around the Scarborogh-Filey-Whitby area? Was all ready to book with Haven for Blue Dolphin but then read a couple of members reviews on it and I,m now un-decided! I,m looking for somewhere with an indoor swimming pool cos the 10yr old loves his swimming.Hoping to go in a couple of weeks time.I,ve looked at readers reviews of a couple of sites around the area but nothing,s appealed to me as yet. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

reighton sands was awful we went in May hardly room to swing a cat between pitches and the toilets/showers were filthy, definatly one to avoid, let us know if you find a good one in that area, because I dont think I could endure another stay with Haven when we go back to that area,we took five kids, never again. The kids were no problem the site was just awful. No fun when your stood there with a five year old too frightened to go the toilet because they look really grimy

We went to reighton sands on friday and tbh I didn't like it at all, as the OH decided it would be convienant to buy food on site we went to the on site shop and it cost a fortune, the food in the resturant was cardboard and many people let their kids run round unsupervised.

Once we had pitched our tent the 'neighbours' came back to their tent and they where very loud and obnoxious every other word was swearing especially at their children, they decided to leave a generator going most of the day, and played 'crazy frog' at full blast out of their car.

We only stopped there for about 6 hours (booked to stop from fri-sun) but my youngest didn't like it and in consideration of other campers we decided it would be better to leave.

I won't be going back there in a hurry.

We've just come back from Vale of Pickering at Allerston - that was lovely.  Allerston's a pretty village about 12 miles out of Scarborough, and about 4 miles away from Pickering.  I'd recommend it.

this is one of the reasons we tend to avoid commercial sites now. we joined the caravan club and you just dont seem to get noisy / obnoxious neighbours like that in our experience. its lovely not to have oikes banging a football against your caravan or loud mouthed drunk parents swearing at the kids until the early hours.

if we do go commercial, which is very rare , its never in peak times.

without a doubt it has to be St Helens at Wykeham 6 miles west of Scarborough. Very pleasant!

CC&C have a good site at Scalby Manor, we`ve been there quite a few times before the CC&C took it over, Scalby Manor hotel was quite handy with a family room and for meals, if this is still the norm. We are members of CC&C but have never been since they took over
