Hi

Due to go to Deryshire end of this month and i am stuck between 2 sites, Greenhills or Callow Top. They both seem good. Has anyone been to these sites. In your opinion are they good or bad. I really need to book tonight so any urgent replies would be appreciated. Our kids are 4 and 7 so we need something good for them even thought we plan to use campsite as a base and have days out.

thanks

Hi crispie

We went to Callow Top 2 years ago in September, it was lovely.  It was a bigger site than I'd realised, can't remember much about it except it did have an outdoor swimming pool, a shop and a pub at the entrance so it suited everyone. I think there was a play area for the kids too and there were definitely nice showers/toilets. We went with a 15 yr old, 8 yr old and 6 yr old and went with friends who had a 7 yr old boy, all enjoyed themselves for the weekend.

Hi Crispie,

We have been to both these sites...

Callow top is a busy site with outdoor swimming pool, games room ,nice little park and a pub with beer garden,it is one of my favourate sites, love the place. Also a fantastic camping field, campers paradise.

Greenhills is a nice site too, with a playing field for the kids, nice pub and there is some lovely walks around you.The fields are big here too,but very hilly. It took us ages to decide which was the best way to pitch our tent, was quiet funny rolling onto each other in the night.!!

We would go back to both sites so which ever you choose i am sure you will enjoy.

Hope this has helped you out a little.Have fun.!

hi crispie,we went to callow top 10 days ago its a nice site with lots for the kids to do,take lots and lots of twenty pence pieces with you as all the arcade games, showers, hairdryers and tumble dryers are 20p.there are seven fields, the first three seemed very cramped and close together, field seven was on a deep slope so that you could only really pitch at the top of the slope or risk having a water feature in your tent! it also didn't have a water tap.the best fields are four and six as they are large, flat and have water.be prepared for the very steep hill near the entrance to the site,it was peeing it down when we stayed and the road surface is very smooth and lots of people had big trouble getting up it,we was nearly wiped out by a van that couldnt get up.it was very scary and tarnished our stay  the speed humps are also IMO to big, how we have still got an exhaust i will never know! if you have a 4x4 you'll be fine.      dont get me wrong, the sites fine, its just that getting on site in the rain is very hairy, and it wasnt just us.

Hi Crispie have just returned from callow top today, it was our first time camping and i am glad we chose CT as it is great for kids and a good base to explore from, we were on field 5, had a good size pitch and not to far from toilets and showers which were kept very clean, there's a nice pub and a club house where the kids can also sit with you and have snacks and drinks, a good play area just outside the clubhouse keeps all the kids busy, we didn't use the pool but it looked very clean and inviting, and all the staff seemed pleasant and helpful, So we are back now after having a very good 3 days there,  and will return next year

If you thinking of Callow Top i'd give them a ring and book up, i was rang and checked avalibility - and there was space availible, then left it too late (a week later) and they were fully booked. Seems a popular site.

Hi

We went to Callow Top on 3 August for 2 nights and had a great time as it was our first camping trip with our 2 year old.

Lots to see nearby, good location, clean and tidy and good facilities for the adults (pub) and the kids (play area).

Weather wasn't great but it didn't deter us from going camping again bank hol weekend coming, but to another site, we will definitely be returning to CT.
