Just got back from 2 weeks in the North East of Scotland. Absolute bliss, the scenery was out of this world. Lovely clean site at Dalchalm, did the John o' Groats tourist bit, drove along some stunning Glens, photographed some posing deer, walked the dog along the beach every morning working up an elephants appetite for breakfast, funnily I dont have a cooked breakfast at home but do every day in the van, and overall had a whale of a time. Planning next years already LOL. Happiness was sat outside at a restaurant in Ullapool harbour with a pint of Prawns and Marie sauce to dip them in. Yes you heard right I'm not drunk I did say a pint of Prawns. I can taste them now!!!!!!!!!

We're just back from doing the NW, NE and Orkney so we might have passed somewhere on the way. Which site in Ullapool did you use?

niblue: we only visited Ullapool for the day, we drove across from Dalchalm on the East coast.

sueandjohn: we have been twice in the last 3 years. we are just down the road from you in Stourport. We stop on a Cl just off the M74 at J12 for the night. The first time we went to Invernahavon, its just off the A9 south of Newtonmore, this time we went further north to Dalchalm in Sutherland. Both sites are Caravan Club sites and allow dogs as does the Cl too. Scenery is stunning up there, it really is although i would say the West coast is more rugged and hence more photogenic ( I tried to spell picturescue but it didnt look right) we are planning the west coast next year starting around Oban and working our way up. It is so beautiful and having a rather large dug like yours we love to see her run free in the heather. OH I came over all Braveheart there lol. Go on give it a go you wont regret it.

Glad to hear you had a wonderful time. We used to live in NE Scotland and have to say I loved it (am a born Bristolian) Now I am in WIltshire I miss the scenery and the real fresh air.  Most people dont venture up far enough, do Loch Lomond and the Trossachs and never get far enough up north and miss the real Gems of Northern Scotland. Everyone who came to stay with us during our 7 years up there have gone back. We're intending to go back for a holiday next year so we can show the girls where they were born, the beaches they used to play on and the walks we used to do with the kiddy back pack on!!! Ahhhh memories. Getting homesick now!!

Agreed entirely emvid1. My suggestion would be to buy O.S. landranger maps as we did and get off the main roads onto some of the unclassified ones. We have some stunning photographs of lochs, deer etc.

Hi Jerry an Tina, Sounds like you had a good time, were off up to Scotland next saturday for 2 weeks but only as far as Ardgarten though, were stopping at a CL near Penrith to break up the journey. were all looking forward to it and cant wait but the kids are a  bit worried about the lenght of the journey from Somerset to Scotland  but im sure they'll be ok with lots of stops.

9 days and counting

Rob

Last year we spent 8 nights at the CC&C site at Poolewe camping (left the van at home) great site had a ride up to Ullapool with view to moving up there but was a little disapointed with Ullapool although great fish and chips. Moved back down to just northe of Arisaig called Bunacaimb camping on the sand dunes beautifull.

Emvid1: Just looking at your whereabouts and the fact that you have moved a bit made me wonder if you were in the same line of work that I used to be. If the reference to Brize doesnt mean anything then you obviously arent, no worries mate.

Hi Rob-b:  Have a great time, we did. we stopped a few times too, to let the doggie stretch her legs, oh and mine too. We found the service station at Stafford ideal fore this as it has a decent grassed area for her to gallop around on. The rest of them are a bit lacking in areas to park the van. We missed Tebay on the way up, J36, but stopped on the South side on the way back, it had a great area for caravans with a  huge picnic area too.

Vectratot: You should have driven North of Ullapool, the scenery is fantastic, but I know what you meant about it lol, the tourist season is short and its geared for that.

Jerry+Tina,

I was just curious but yep Scotland to Lyneham kind of gives it away a bit. Yep we are moving to Brize in the near future.

emvid1: Tks for that mate, was on 8 & 23 at Waddington for 10 years before deciding enough was enough. Best of luck.

Having been back all of 2 days, we have 4 days left of our holiday entitlement this year and am wondering about heading back north sometime is September.

The junction would either have been Ledmore or Laxford Bridge. If you went far enough to cross the Kylescu bridge it'd be Laxford, if not then it'd be Ledmore.
