Thorntonloch Caravan Park just off the A1 about 4 miles south of Dunbar, East Lothian. Cheap, cheerful and friendly site. So close to the beach you can almost step out of your van and onto the beach! A right little jewel in the crown. Post code is EH42 1QS (for the sat-nav users).

If you're a surfer, take your board, great surf.

If you're a fisherman, take the rods, great sea fishing, especially Bass.

If you're lazy - then this is the place for you to relax completely! :)

Is this close enough? You can just see the entrance to the campsite on the right where the statics are. Golden Cap at Seatown in Dorset. The white building close to the beach is the Anchor Inn...what more could you ask for?

Good grief this is an old post resurrected but I'd love to find somewhere like Shell Island near Barmouth, no caravans I'm afraid and lovely mid week but weekends and especially BH weekends are not so good.

Hippychick which one were you referring to? emvids post seems to have disappeared - We've done Wales/West Country now so I fancy the east coast for a change.

Glenbrittle campsite.  Glenbrittle, Isle of Skye.  Stunning location next to the Cuillins and beach was deserted in September when we went there.  Campsite literally on the beach.
