I want to take my 3 year old son camping at the end of the month preferably to the north west of Scotland, I'm in Fife but have only recently moved up here so not too genned up on where best to visit. Can anyone recommend a good campsite that's toddler friendly and is close to a beach? Many thanks.

There are some nice sites around Oban, try a search on here. I think North Ledaig might be the name of one of them.

The North West is beautiful. Ullapool is a lovely little fishing town that I'd recommend. There's a couple of campsites there but the one we go to is Ardmair Point about 2-3 north of Ullapool. It's in a lovely setting and the facilities are very good. I have a tip though, if you're in a tent the obvious showers to go to will be the ones in the reception/shop block - don't go to these. We always used those showers and they're perfectly nice and clean but last time I was there I had a walk further along to the other block and they're even nicer! The water pressure is better and there's more room in the cubilcles

Gairloch and the surrounding area is also lovely but I've never actually camped there. It's on my to do list though!

Hope you find somewhere nice and have a lovely time.

Deb

North Ledaig is a very good site (possibly the best we've used). The beach isn't the best for kids though as it's stoney rather than sand.

Further north I can recommend Ardmair Point (also a pebble beach), Scourie Caravan and Camping Park, Sango Sands in Durness, Inverewe Gardens Camping and Caravanning Club site at Poolewe (great beaches at nearby Gairloch) and Camusdarach near Malaig.

Camusdarach is beside one of the best beaches in Scotland (the one used for the film Local Hero) and Durness has loads of great beaches nearby, inlcluding one right in front of the campsite.

Hi mygal

As mentioned earlier the campsite at Ardmair near Ullapool is lovely. I prefer the one at Clachtoll which is next to a wonderful beach and is a fairly quite and safe site. Head up past Ullapool to Lochinver, before you reach Lochinver go right signposed for Clachtoll, Stoer and the site is about 5 miles along this road. Stunning views, also along this road but only about a mile in is Achmelvich beach site as well which is also wondrful. Watch out for midges though

I'm amazed that no-ones yet mentioned Sands Holiday Centre at Gairloch!!!

This has to be my favourite site in the area even though it's been a year or two since we went.

niblue mentioned the great beaches at Gairloch - This site is amongst the dunes there. Facilities are  very good. Have a look at the reviews elsewhere on this site..

Jim

I haven't stayed at Sands myself because we used Inverewe when we were in that area however when asked by friends (who were camping) recently where we'd recommend to the south of Ullapool then we said Sands at Gairloch especially as they had a dog with them. The had a great time there and, having had a look at the site and the beach last year, I'm not surprised.
