I've managed to get August bank holiday off from work but now cannot find any campsites that have got any pitches free for that weekend. We wanted to stay in the local area as hubbie might have to work until 6 ish on the Friday. I've tried nearly every campsite that had a good reveiw this afternoon but to no avail. Might have to put out an appeal for anyone who has a large back garden that they can lend us.

Anyone have an bright ideas?

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Think I might join the C & CC. Is anyone else a member & would you recommend it for people with tents?

Shazm 19 - the clue's in the name! lol

Camping and Caravanning Club - Doh!!!

We're only members of the Caravan Club and that was originally so that we could do our caravan insurance through them. But now we've switched to Caravan Guard insurance we've still stayed as members because we do enjoy the monthly magazine for one thing!

Admittedly most of the CC sites are open to non-members too it just costs them more for pitches but as members you also get the full site directory for the whole of the UK, brilliant if you're actually the travelling kind, (and not like us going to Cornwall for past 12 years.....)

Sorry I did not want to appear thick. I knew they accepted campers but have found that over the last couple of years some of the sites we have used before are now not accepting tents anymore. I did not want to pay £30 only to find that the biase was heavily on the caravan side.

Well that's a bit weird aint it? Don't think for one mo btw that anyone thought you were being thick - that is purely MY domain on here-lol

Suppose they have their  reasons for no longer taking tents, (wouldn't mind betting it's financial!), but think it'd be best to check before you intend to arrive just to be on the safe side. Which isn't that helpful if you've just stopped off on the off chance is it?  I know in the CC sites handbook it does show all relevant symbols under each name so you can see at a glance if tents and/or motorhomes are accepted too but if the site changes it's rules during that year, who's to know?

And I couldn't even tell you how much our subscription to the CC is as it goes

C&CC book tells you what types of unit each site accepts - don't think that there are many that don't take tents.  After all that was why they started and the CC caters for caravans.
