We are hoping to visit this area next week and wondered whether anyone could  recommend a good site near Portmeirion (where The Prisoner was filmed) ? We were hoping for a fairly quiet site but  haven't had much luck so far in our search.

Any recommendations/advice for camping, and campsites, in this area would be gratefully received.

Thanks  Paul

Porthmadog and Portmerion are very popular and busy this time of year, if its a quiet site you looking for you may have to go a bit further away from these areas as with them being close to beach and the little darlings being off school it will be busy, have you thought of bala area as they have nice rural sites within driving distance of Portmerion

Try this site at Criceith only about 3 miles out of Portmadog on the pwhelli road.
We have stayed there often and it's a great site!
Eistedffa
We hope to be there from the 20th August for a few days at least.
Just as a matter of interest to those reading this, There is a "Return to steam" event that week with steam trains running on the coast line from Macythlleth to Portmadog
Hence my reason for being there!

Happy Camping Frank & Kathy

Crickey, I should get sponsor money for this;

Try Black Rock Sands Portmadoc....Enter the town from the railway and turn left just before Woolworths. Follow road almost to the end (thats the sea/beach) turn right and BRS is on your left. Quiet site, no club. Direct access to the beach. Has a cafe/bar just outside site entrance. Good showers/Loos etc

I believe that you can walk along the beach to Portmerion. Watch out for large inflatable baloons though

Thanks for the advice folks. I don't want to book before going (weather etc) so will be able to find somewhere hopefully when we go next Sunday 21st.

(May see you at Eistedffa Frank & Kathy)

Cheers   Paul

If you want to be away from the madding crowds of Greenacres and the like of Black Rock Sands then I suggest this site - it is reasonable walk from the main town centre and a few minutes cycle ride from the beach.

Haven't stayed there myself but my parents have and loved it - they though the food in the hotel was pretty good as well.

It's located on the road between Portmadoc and BlackRock Sands.

It's reviewed here.
