Although we use a caravan, as said above when we go away to sites its the ONLY time my 5yr old boy goes to bed easily & sleeps later than 6am. About 7 - 730 seems the time when people get up with the kids anyway. We've been going for about 3 years and never had a problem. Other members of family have come with tents next to ours & their kids go off to sleep no problem. Just make sure that they're warm enough, don't forget it can get colder during the night,  and they'll be fine

Don't worry its one of the best hols we've been on and I'm sure you'll love it.

Thanks all for your reassurance (not sure how this site works, do I thank people at the end of my thread, or start a new one?).  Anyhow, thanks so much - can't wait to go now .

We were new to camping this year, wasn't sure if our daughter (aged 8) would like it but she loved it, loved running to the shop to get groceries, washing the dishes at the communal sinks.  Every opportunity we get know its can we go camping for the weekend, in fact when we can,t is when the problem starts, its exciting for kids, its an adventure.

Don't forget favourite 'Teddy'  - he likes to go camping too !

Have a hunt around bargain book stores for kids books with a camping theme ( not ghoulies in the woods ones though !! )

Try buying some glowsticks off ebay - they are our girls ( 6 and 4 ) comfort sticks in the night.............

I'd much rather hear a baby crying than a drunk throwing up in the next tent ....

This year we were kept awake by a 'cicada' (not sure if that's the right spelling!!) who had crawled under the flap of the outer tent and got stuck between it and the inner bedroom tent. We found him the next night, when he started again. They make a noise rather like one of those electronic alarm clocks and drove us mad for a night!! Needless to say he was 'evicted' and we had a good nights sleep - so don't worry about the kids you can bet they'll be fine and they'll have a great time.

We're all different!

I find that my kids take ages to get to sleep the first night cos their so excited, wake early the next morning cos it's not their normal bed and from there on in are getting up later and later in the morning and sleeping like logs thro the night.
