Can't help you with Edale, (where is that btw?), but we had same probs in Cornwall and that was same for almost every network on the site!

Quite comical seeing that 'search dance' every evening!!! All these nutters, (me included!), wandering around the site mobiles  held high, only to manage a weak signal which of course you lost as soon as you lowered the phone to your ear!!!! Moral to this: hold at ear height or use speaker phone -lol

I also need to be contactable at all times, (ageing Dad who's had four strokes, now with epilepsy and all too prone to serious falls! Nightmare), so we just make sure that other family members, (or rellies neighbours if no family about), have the site phone number so they could always get hold of us.  Then even if you're out and about should a call come, (we prayed none would!), they'll leave a note on your van/tent telling you to contact reception where they'd pass any message on.

Have a gr8 holiday,  (you jammy beggar), and just go on that 'no news is good news' thing - works for us!

Only 49 weeks to hols and counting.....every bl**dy one!!!!

When we were in Edale a couple of weeks ago we could'nt get a signal for orange or vodafone unless we were on the tops of the hills.

When we were in Crowden not too far from Edale, my daughter and boyfriend couldn't get signals on their T-mobiles unless they climbed up the hill, but I could on my Vodafone anywhere in the area.

They told us in the pub that no networks could be used in Edale village.  Was a bit of a struggle until on top of the hills but suppose thats quite a way to go if  you just want to send a text!  Whew did you do the Jacobs Ladder walk mismooncat?

Thank you!!!!!! But I'm a wee bit confuzzed now since seing sarahk's post talking about Jacob's Ladder coz there's one of them in Somerset too.....Oooh, my head hurts...... Unless Jacob did an awful lot of building work that needed loads of ladders all over the place? Well, he wouldn't have the luxury of lorries for transporting them and things would he.....

That's it - I've officially lost the plot now!

I must get off this!!! Should be going shopping to buy treats for son and his girlfriend coming for weekend. Have to spoil him, and his father will wonder why he's suddenly getting decent food again too as he hasn't since I found ukcs -lol

My name's hippy chick and I am a ukcs addict.....

O2 and Vodafone didnt work there. There is a pay phone outside Coopers campsite, and Im sure if you gave Mr. Cooper's number he would willingly run across with a message in the middle of the night!!!

For people who need to remain contactable, 'old fashioned' pagers tend to work in most places that mobiles don't.

You can hire them for short periods, or they're not too expensive to buy.

It's also possible to rent satellite phones that will work almost anywhere, but they are expensive.

Vodaphone def doesn't work- tried from outside campsite and both pubs in the village and no reception at all!  Got reception half way up onto the Kinder Plateuax (sp?) but was in a hail storm by then...

Perhaps you could call in at agreed times?  Payphone in village and the nearer pub..

Edale is a nightmare, almost as soon as you turn off the main road in Hope you will lose a signal on any network.
