Spent last weekend at this site and was dissapointed by the standard of facilities.

This site is in a fantastic location next to the beach (we were on the beach by 8:30 AM in glorious sunshine and playing in the sea), also convenient for the town of Southwold and the village of Walberswick across the harbour by rowing boat or footbridge and walk via Walberswick Common.

Unfortunatley the site was badly let down by the standard of facilities, both shower blocks were in a poor state (No hot water in one), the toilets were unclean and there was no hot water for washing up by Sunday Morning.

We were not looking for anything special in the way of facilities, but at £13/night would expect a slightly higher standard than this. We last used this site several years back (not in high season) and don't remember the facilities being like this although I have seen comments on this site by others who have voiced similar views.

The site itself was full and I wonder if Waveney District Council have decided that they are able to fill the site without investing further.

Such a pity as we really like this area, has anybody any ideas for other sites along this part of Suffolk coast between Southwold and Aldeburgh, I think there is a site at Dunwich?

Could you post a review please? Then your views would be helpful for others, and possibly the camp site.

We went to Southwold years ago & were thinking of going again this year, but the reviews (and our memories) were not good. It's a shame really, as it's such a lovely part of the world. We didn't go because we couldn't find any sites of the standard we were looking for in the area. I asked here if anyone knew Carlton Park Camping & Caravan Site - Saxmundham, as there are apparently houses backing onto the site & we wanted to know what that was like. I didn't get any replies though.

Walberswick is a very special place & 20 years ago you could wild camp, but not any more I don't think.

I think that you probably mean Cliff House Holiday Park.  I've never been there, but have read good reviews.  See here for UKCS listing and reviews.

Hope that I've done the link properly so that you can get there!

You are correct to say that Waveney District Council seem to have stopped investing in this site.

As a cost saving measure, they have closed the other site they operate in Lowestoft.

I''ve posted this in a review but it has yet to appear.

They should sell it then. It's in a great location for a campsite.

We haven't stayed at the Dunwich site, but called ina couple of years ago to have a look at the log cabins that were up for sale (expensive). The site looked very nice perched up on the cliffs with good landscaping and trees and bushes to break up the areas. Its in a fantastic area up amongst the NT site with lots of walks amongst heather moorland or woodland and of course the sea. I believe there is a resturant and bar on site too. We have stayed for some years at Southwold in a borrowed cottage and love the area. I agree the caravan site at Southwold looks rather on the grotty side and wouldn't fancy staying there now we have come back into caravaning. I don't know of other sites in the area as we hadn't thought we would be buying a caravan so soon and anyway we get the borrowed cottage each year....lucky us!

Hope this helps
