Does anyone know if you have 3 small tents ( 2 two man tents, 1 three man tent ) would the site charge the same as a big tent, 2 adults 3 children, we brought these tents just to use on the weekends as they are ideal quick and easy to put up we was thinking of putting all 3 together and a gazebo in the middle plus windbreakers, so i was wondering if they would charge any different as they would be all on the same pitch. Please help anyone.

Its possible they will charge you for 1 tent plus a 'pup' tent.

I would tell them that if I were you that you have the number of tents you have, and the berths. If they want to charge you loads, dont book!

Could you return the small tents and buy one larger one? Some of them are generous without being huge tents

Why not visit one of the sites where you pay per person.

If you all had a tent each we would only charge you a total of £7.50p per night.

Most campsites we have come across charge by tent, when we started out we use to have 2 threeman tents. one for me and OH and one for brother & his OH (we didnt want to get one big tent as we like our own space and if bro wants to go somewhere different at same time as us etc) we always found that we had to pay for two pitches or if we where lucky we would be charged one pitch & a pup tent.

We always found this very annoying as our two tents took up lest space than these super tents and we were paying more. On one occasion last Aug bank Holiday we when to a campsite and pay for two pitches so though we take up two pitch spaces, but we was approched by the owner who said we where taking up two much space and have to pitch closer together, when we argued that we had paid for two pitches we were told in a strong way pitch closer together or leave.
