after a disasterous week at a so - called best of british site in dover, who's name i shall not reveal, me and the missus were wondering what criteria camp sites need to attain to achieve this status?

we have been on lots of their sites over the years but i'm sorry to say this particular one failed expectations miserably!

1st off there was no pitch as such allocated for us "just find somewhere" we were informed on arrival, which automatically sent alarm bells ringing, then we were accompanied by the neighbours from hell, you know those who insist they have the best music tastes? and are damned well sure you are going to listen to it too! and every other word used in their vocabulary was straight from an episode of the osbornes, in fact i reckon ozzy himself would of cringed.

then we had the overnighters who arrive at 11.00pm onwards, or those who need to catch an early ferry but felt it polite to let the rest of the field know they were leaving, yeah thanx for the 4.00am call

now i know quite afew of you might read this and think what a snobby ******** far from it......i'm just an ordinary bloke with an ordinary wife who both work full time and happen to look forward to 2weeks break, which in general over previous years we have been fortunate enough to obtain.

so be warned anyone who is thinking of heading to dover with the intention of a week or 2 of peace and quiet relaxation, cos the next time if ever i head to dover it will be to catch a ferry!

( oh did i mention the railway track that runs adjacent to the campsite?)

Hi

We have stayed on 5 Best Of British Sites and out of them all only 1 didn't meet our approval.  The toilets were appalling, but all the others have been top notch !

Let's hope it was just a one-off.

Hi,  Sorry to hear of your disappointing trip away.  We always choose CC sites, most have late arrival area and we have never had any problems with chavs.  We always seem to pitch next to very nice people in all descriptions of vans new and old, plus motor homes and trailer tents.  When someone pitches next to us we always make a point of saying hello and having a chat.

Hi

Sounds like a holiday from hell. But dont be put off visiting Best of British sites.Weve been to two this summer,Oxford and Hereford. Both lovely sites and well managed.A very loud party arrived whilst we were at oxford, but as soon as the music and overly loud voices started to boom across the park, the wardens soon quietend them down.

My only quibble with Poston Mill is a child becomes adult fee over 10yrs old.But then thats another topic!

well seems like bad luck sorry to hear. just thought i'd mention over the years we have been to sites on flightpath to Bournemouth Airport or right next to Bembridge Airfield complete with scout jamboree one year complete with 7'0'clock reveille with bugle but have returned to those site as pro's far outweighed the con's also we've been next to some major trunk roads for heavy goods to docks (Pembroke & Poole). but we do synpathise afetr a horrendous 2 weeks in Southport mainly their clientele were weekenders for themed weekends at the onsight clubhouse combine this with a coastline with a 40minute walk to the sea from the beach???

if you like the southcoast try the Isle of Wight - White Cliff Bay.

thanx for your ampathy folks, as i stated we have stayed at numerous b.o.b. sites, poston mills, lincoln farm? and yes been to i.o.w. whitecliff bay too, the point i was trying to get over is who actually checks these sites to make sure their upkeep is maintained? as it appears somewhere along the line this site managed to pull the wool(or is it the sleeping bags?) over the representatives eyes.

keep on camping folks

Not too sure who checks out these sites, but you can go on the bob website and do a review on there too.
