Hi Everyone,

We are of to Knaresborough on the 1st Sept for 4 nights staying at the caravan club camp site. Just wondering if any of you know of any good places to eat or things to do near by.  We are going to Thirsk races on the Saturday, that should be good.

Anyone now any information????

San

Hi San,

We were at that site last week - really nice wardens, brilliant loo block!  There is a nice wine bar in Knaresborough called Carriages, which does brilliant chunky chips!  The bakers, Thomas, I think it's called, on Knaresborough market place is wonderful.  We went to a pub, but I'll have to rack my brains to remember where it was - service was slow but food great - somewhere near Ripley, I think it began with an A.  Sorry not much use.  York is great - it was packed last week in the sunshine, but great atmosphere.  Lots of places round there to drive to - but we tend to go off 20 - 30 miles, so not immediately close to hand.  Hope this is of some help!

Hi Petsan, I'm sure you'll have a fabulous time in Knaresborough.

What type of food are you in to?  There is a good place called "So!" it does wonderful food - try the So! Lamb - I have it every time we go.

You could go a bit further afield - the Drum & Monkey in Harrogate is the best fish restaurant ever, but you'll need to book in advance.

Knaresborough has lots of good pubs - try Blind Jack's on the market square.

If you fancy a snack or afternoon tea, try marigolds on the bank of the river below the castle - lovely picture postcard views whilst you sup your coffee!

Anyway, if you let me know what kinds of things you're in to, I'll put my thinking cap on.

Enjoy!

When we stopped at Rudding Park, Harrogate, we went to Knaresborough for the day. Had some really nice pasties from a shop in the main square. The kids (& I) really enjoyed our visit to Mother Shiptons Cave etc.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.

Hi Petsan,

If you want live music the World's End is good on a Friday night (blues/rock usually).

Best Indian in town us The Dill (market square)

Best chinese (takeaway) is Ming Fai (high st opp Spar)

Great chinese eat in is The Regency (opp swimming baths on York Road - near Grammer (oops Comp) school.

Food at carriages is good but a little pricey. Blind jacks - looks old but isn't. It was a jewelers 10 years ago. Tends to get full of pretentious real ale morons. Nothing wrong with real ale - just some of the self important customers that this particular hostelry attracts. On the plus side, it does have a non smoking room upstairs if that is important to you.

If you don't mind a drive of 30 mins - Bradford is on your door step for some of the best curry available in UK.

Knaresborough Castle is also worthy of a visit and don't forget to stop by and have your photo taken by Ed Webster (summer artist in residence). Mention my name (Jez) and he'll only charge you double (joke). It's actually free - his project is to create a montage of faces visiting the town so the more the merrier!!

Hope you enjoy your visit to my town
