I just had E-Mails from two people about sites in my guide.  One said that she had visited a site in the book which was full of Gipoes.  I think she meant Travellers.  She did not stay for fear of them stealing her spare wheel.  I will not identify that site because I have been there twice and it has great views and why should I put a blocker on their business.  I’m not sure if the next E-Mail, which was about a different site, was expressing outrage or amusement but it said that they could see a naturists beach with lots of naked men.

I remember it.  Looking up my notes I see that I wrote.

"It is a wide wild open site with glorious views across the sea."  I wonder what it costs now?

Hi Anne

This is the website for Bay Ness www.baynessfarm.co.uk

Have a look on the campsite search section of UK Campsite.  There are a number of reviews of Bay Ness on the website, including one I wrote after a visit just after last Easter.

It's a pretty basic site but has all-round superb sea views.

Happy camping.

Best Wishes

Tim

This forum never ceases to suprise me.  I not only drove all round the Robin Hoods Bay area I also walked a lot of it and I missed the Bays Ness site although I did find this one which I have to say appears a trifle more expensive.  http://www.hookshousefarm.co.uk/

Hi Baliol

Bay Ness would certainly qualify for your guide.

If I remember rightly Bay Ness is just before Hooks House but on the other side of the road.  I don't think there is a sign on the road and it is along a VERY long and rather bumpy and narrow farm lane - the owner said that on busy weekends he operates a one-way system with vehicle travelling in alternative directions in "convoys"!!  I'm not surprised you missed it as it can't be seen from the road. The good side of that is that it is nearer to the sea and it has seaviews on 3 sides.

It is just above the old railway line which is now a footpath/cycle track from Whitby to Robin Hoods Bay although it is a steep hill down to the footpath from the site and a very stiff walk back up.  There is a 4x4 centre next door and it seems that people using that often stay at the campsite.

Best wishes to all fellow sea-view lovers.

Tim

For some strange reason I have just received this dated 3.10.2005.  Is this my strange and slowO2  3G Data Card or what.  Anyway, duly noted and thanks.
