hi ya all been doin this sorta thing for over 20 yrs now had the caravans now have a trailer tent and and a tent Was kinda wondering how and why some people ( so called campsite owners) can justify asking 25 to 30 quid a night to rent a 5 to 6 mtr square bit of grass, THEN have the cheek to ask for extra monies if you have kids ( the pitch size remains the same) THEN charge you to use the showers THEN ask a further bit of hard earned cash for the dog ( who doesnt use ANY FACILITIES). In this day and age, an average seems to be around 18 quid a night, still a lot of money when you think about what your actually doing ( most of us are out early and dont return till later so we really only use it as a base) yet we the British (site owners) are exceptionally greedy and us (the campers) being British just go along with these extortionate prices like a lamb to the slaughter ,maybe if we stood up and said BUGGER OFF  to these unrealistic prices we could get a better deal all round.  I have no problem with making a living but ripping us off isnt fair you work out just how much a site owner is making say with a field taking 50 pitches times 20 quid a night, dont care what they say they are making a buck.  Where are the days of camping being a cheap holiday?

HI all just wanted to say we have just stayed at a haven site mon - fri 5 of us plus elec hook up for 51pound not bad but then decided to stay and extra night which was pound but still 73 pound for 5 nights with elec and all facilities not bad deal.

But we looked at sites with no facilities apart from loo and shower and some of them like you say were expensive as we have 3 kids thats how we ended up at haven.

(sorry about the written pound my pound sign doesnt work since had ntl installed)

Hi,

I get really annoyed by and therefore refuse to book any site that charges extra for such basics as showers, I mean how tight can you get. I also wont book anywhere where use of the on-site pool costs extra. These sites are usually well into the mid 20 pounds a night and to charge an extra £7 for a family swim is outrageous. I know that it seems daft that sites with clubs charge more but personally I dont mind as I dont book these sites either.

Blimey choice seems to be getting narrower!

Mike

P.S. lynles - have you tried resetting your keyboard layout (control panel, keyboard to UK)?

£2.65 per night for an Awning.

£2.25 per night for a Dog

and get this one £2.00 per night to reserve a certain pitch

I get the hump that places don't do a reduced rate for a single camper.

Take the Newlands meet for example, how come i get to pay the same rate with my 6' sq tent and me, as a big top with 6 in it.

Don't get me wrong i'm happy enough paying ten or eleven quid a night, but it is a bit rich for renting some grass, and 3 minutes of hot water.

I agree with you - one of the main reasons I have joined the CC&C, they charge per person.

I'm a member already.Bit like a travelodge, nothing fancy, but you know you'll have hot water and a good nights sleep.Their sites also seem more friendly than commercials, with people willing to help, or saying good morning.

I appreciate these sites have certain limits to pitches, and need to balance their books for the greatest returns.

Sumners Ponds are masters at that, one weekend, they were full, then they could squeeze me in, then they were full again.I phoned them up said I had a few mates coming as well, which would increase my pitch rate, and that I would pay for fishing as well.Much umming, and aaarghing later, and me offering to do the same for two nights and magically they had a vacancy.

Cost me 35 quid for two nights on my own, purely as I had heard the fishing was good.

As it was, no one adheres to the 7 am start time, so by 6 am most of the swims are taken anyway.

When I got there, there were probably half a dozen spare pitches.
