Thinking ahead to next year already........

Travelling down from north Scotland to have 10 days camping at the Lake District

I have done several searches and i am overawed by the amount of sites there are. Obviously we would love to find the "ideal" site after travelling all this distance, and intend to stay the 10 days at one site.

Our criteria for the site would include, beutiful setting, good toilet facilities, pub onsite or near bye

Me and the girlfriend would be delighted if you could recomend us your campsites of choice

Thanks

Chris....

Hi Chris and welcome to UKCS.

I have to recommend Fisherground Campsite, it's in wonderful surroundings and you can have a real fire. There is a choice of 2 pubs within walking distance. See the reviews.........

Just come back from Limefitt.

the site is now virtually empty. The pub on site is pretty crap to be honest and is not serving food as most  of the staff have left.

the site is great, turn right ant an 8 minute walk gets you to the Queens Head (6 ales £2.20 - £2.50 / pint) and the Mortal Man is just past it!

Re beautiful setting - don't think you'll find a site in the Lake District that doesn't have this, might not all be lakeside views but all of them have something to offer.

Try sites around Keswick, town is a bit commercial, but plenty of pubs and just off the main A66 which is just off the M6. C&C club is in town.

Hi

The C&CC site at keswick is really nice, right on the lake and 5 min walk into keswick with all its pubs and resturants, there's a launch on the lake that you can use like a bus to go to other parts of the lake and get off, walk abit and get on at another pier, there's also lots of buses go from out side booths suppermarket which is 5 mim walk away, so you could go to other places with out useing your car if you didn't fancy driving.

You dont have to be a member to stay here

the c&c  club at windermere is nice as well and its got own  basic little pub, its a few year since I was there as wellthough. When ever I try the keswick site its always fully booked, trouble is I never book very far ahead, usually a couple of days to keep an eye on the weather.

i have visited quite a few campsites in lakes over the years, and can truly say that they are all more or less the same, apart from the ones tucked away in the corner of a farmers field with sheep and cows roamin around, but thats another story.

if i had to choose my favourite, possibly because as well of being a great site (like many others) it also has its own village on the doorstep, i would definately opt for 'the croft' at hawkshead, the beauty about it is if you don't like the pub your'e in - visit the next etc.etc.locals are quite friendly too.

I always like the CC site at coniston. Very peaceful yet only a short walk to the village and its amenities. Also has direct access to lake from bottom of site
